Have any of you experienced a vibration when applying the brakes on an incline/going downhill? Im considering taking my van in for the brake vibration under warranty work due to a recent Toyota Service Bulletin that I was made aware of, and wanted to see if anybody here has had the work done at the dealer under warranty.

thanks

Every manufacturer has the problem you describe, and every manufacturer has at least one technical service bulletin about it. Companies all vary about how they handle warranty coverage of the repairs, but (assuming it's just the typical rotor runout type of pulsation) most of them won't do it as a warranty repair if you're over 1yr/12k miles.

It's always tough to diagnose things over the internet, but what you describe is a very common symptom.

yea i hope im covered because according to the bulletin, i am. But ill see what the dealer says. For info, the bulletin says there is a flap of some sort hanging that blocks wind to keep the brakes cool, so part of the fix by toyota is to trim it and replace rotors and pads. But like i said we will see... Appt is friday.

Never say youll never own a minivan, because you probably will...its what i said and now look lol

Minivans are the way to go. Sure, you can get an SUV that has less space, gets worse gas mileage, and costs more so you can show your status through your car. Personally, I will take the vehicle that does what I need it to better.

Service bulletins generall are NOT warranty/recall level work. They are just 'hey heads up if a customer has this problem, this is the diagnosis' sent to dealers.

Good luck.

Lefty. Minivans are awesome. I dont own one. But run the numbers and they become the greatest--track day vehicle, roadtrip vehicle, mtb vehicle, kayak hauler, surfboard express, etc. Wagons come close. SUVs way third. There is so much more room for activities in a van.

But you'll look like a soccer mom!

Wait, aren't all of the soccer moms these days driving SUVs?

OP-

Please turn in your man-card, for admitting that you own a MiniVan.

Everyone who says that, secretly wants a mini-van..:twofinger

My previous vans
69 VW
66 Dodge
91 Voyager
00 Grand Caravan

The Grand Caravan was larger than the 66 Dodge. Got 28 mpg, smooth & quiet ride. When it came time to replace it, I was done hauling my daughter & her friends around so I went back to a Toyota Tacoma 5 yrs ago. The GC was my favorite 4 wheels I ever owned.

Funny because my 'wife' wanted an SUV and I wanted a full size van. So we compromised and got an Odyssey last year. :thumbup

This year she got herself a Highlander out of her own pocket ( so I had no say ) but she still have to admit the van is way better / easier to transport our kids and run errands with. :laughing Plus it makes for a way better club house at trackdays when they come along. :thumbup

I own a 2012 and by brother in law has a 2011. We both experienced similar issues going down the I-5N grapevine several months ago, and we weren't even under heavy braking.

Only time it happened to both of us so we just shrugged it off and continued on our way...

Thats exactly where i felt it! Going down the grapevine! And that was last year. I would take it in ^ toyota fixed the issue as of today!

Yes, as long as your sienna is within the 36 months/36k mile toyota basic warranty from the in service date.

Damn, looks like no free brakes for me. I'm already at 50k.
Guess I'll just mod the plastic guard myself before our next trip to socal.
