2008 "RydTher Rally" -- Hawthorne, NV!!! (Sept. 5, 6 and 7)

We are proud to announce the very first BARF rally – 2008 Yosemite/Sierra.

Ever wondered what sport-touring is all about? We have plenty of riding, eating, and sightseeing fun in store for you.

If you can only manage a hall pass for two days, no problem – book a room for Saturday, and ride out to Hawthorne, Nevada for the event’s dinner celebration that evening. On Sunday, enjoy some company for a visit to the best preserved ghost town in California -- Bodie State Park, and for the trip home.

Come and meet your fellow BARFers and BARFettes. Come for the fun and company. :thumbup :banana

Early Departure
If, for any reason, you decide to depart early from the rally, you must notify a rally coordinator, or ask another participant to relay your intent to a rally coordinator.

What’s a Rally?
This is not an organized or guided group-riding event. There are no designated leads or sweeps. This is a rally with pre-determined routes, common points-of-interest and destination for the participants. The daily starting point and time are provided to allow the participants the greatest opportunity to enjoy the company of other BARFers and BARFettes along the way for the duration of the rally. Participants are free to band into groups of their choosing, and at their own risk.

You are responsible for yourself.
Riding a motorcycle is dangerous. You are responsible for your own safety. Proper riding gear, a valid CDL/M1, vehicle registration and proof of insurance are highly recommended. In short, YOU are the Captain of your own ship.

Expenses
You are responsible for your own expenses. Budget for lodging, park fee(s), gas, food, beverages, and anything you may need along the way accordingly.

Sounds awesome!!!!

Unfortunately, I am leaving the Yay Area in early August. :cry

The wife is retiring from the Air Force, and we will be moving to Illinois, so she can go to school.

I want to do another ride through the passes before I leave.

Awesome! I'm 99% sure I'll be there! Nice work folks. :thumbup

And if my GF doesn't make the trip I can offer a lift into Bodie for one of you dirt-fearin' folks as I'll be on the KTM. :twofinger

A pity that will conflict with classes for me - and I doubt I could afford it anyway.

Another time.

Holy Fuckballs, It's in September. I don't even know what I have to do next week, much less in 5 months.

But I'm subscribed, :thumbup

I'll know more as the event gets closer.

By the way for those with no-shit dual sports there are two ways to get to Bodie. The long way that's 50 some odd miles the last three of which are well groomed gravel, and the short way that's 30 miles of dirt, with about three creek crossings.

So what you're trying to say is that there's a boring way to Bodie and a fun way to Bodie :ride.

Details appreciated (here, via PM, now/later/whenever) as that sounds delightful. Thanks!

here's a thread from a U.B.O.B run to Hawthorne with a Bodie excursion.

We started out down the shorter dirtier route. A subaru, me on the R1200GS, and a Honda Civic. A 4X2 Chevy Avalanche crossed our path at a fork in the road and advised us that they barely had the ground clearance not to high-center and that the creeks were deeper that his bumpers. We turned around and went back to take the longer way. We did cross one of the creeks. It was maybe a foot deep and terrifying for me and Princess Bitch was sweating the undercarraige of the Honda.

I would think that anything that a 4X2 Avalanche can handle a 400 or 650 single can cover. The GS was just too heavy, and I'm too much of a novice in the dirt to try it.
