Consider the maintenance work or fixes that YOU need to do to the bike, and factor that into the price. It is ok to pay more for a bike that has had all of the maintenance work done to it recently, or pay less and get a bike that needs some work, but you must know this in advance and be ok with it.
    • Inspecting the bike: if you are not experienced yourself, have a mechanic or an experienced friend check the bike before making a purchase. Crashed bikes:This is even more important if you are buying a bike that is being sold at a cheaper price with damages that the buyer is required to fix. In these cases, doing a frame check that will show any frame/fork/geometry damages is HIGHLY recommended. Do NOT simply rely on the information that the seller is providing, even he/she may not be aware of all the problems. Have the crashed bike checked and know what you are getting into.
    • Clean title, Salvage title A clean title doesn't mean the bike is free of serious issues. A Salvaged title doesn't mean the bike may have any problems. Every case is different. Some bikes are seriously damaged in a crash, but an insurance claim is never made on them, so they still have a clean title. Some bikes have had mostly cosmetic damages in a crash, but the insurance company decided to pay off the bike and salvage the title rather than spending the money to fix it. Know what you are getting into and don't make any assumptions based on what the seller is telling you.
    • Registration: Know about the current registration status of the bike. Check with DMV if you have any questions about any possible back fees and other title/registration questions (out of state title, no title with bill of sales only, etc.) before purchasing the bike.

    • If you disagree with a price, keep it to yourself. The seller has set the price. If you don't like it, don't buy it and move on. If you really feel strongly about it, then PM the seller.

2007 BMW F800s (+/- same as F800st)

For sale is my wonderful Sunset Yellow BMW F800s. For those unfamiliar with the model, the "S" version was imported for just ONE year: 2007.

The F 800s is virtually the same as the F 800st in all respects. There are two differences that I know of: you get a top clamp with clip-ons rather than a bar and you get a half-fairing rather than a full fairing. These result in a slightly more sporty riding position. That's it. The F800 series bikes all run a parallel-twin Rotax motor that is the same and has been unchanged, AFAIK, for the last several iterations of the bike, and it's basically bulletproof.

You can fit the F800st luggage to the F800s - it all just bolts right on. Get the luggage rails and the "sport" hard side-bags, or find the luggage rack and fit any top-box of your choice. I ran mine with both on longer trips, and just a Givi top-box when out for a weekend ride. Sport-touring on this bike is wonderful!

Things I love about this bike:
- Light. No, it's not supersport-light, but for a capable all-rounder/sport-tourer, it's decidedly un-porky.
- Plenty of power. As a parallel twin, you get lots of torque, allowing you to pull hard out of corners if you so choose.
- Comfy. This has to be the best factory seat I've ever had on a bike. Seriously, don't dismiss all-day comfort!
- Fuel efficient. I tend to get almost 50mpg, which means I can ride more and stop less. Even when I'm romping on it, I get about 45mpg.
- Informative. Huh? Well, there's a fuel gauge, an outside temp gauge, a gear indicator, an mpg calculator/countdown and a host of other info available through the trip computer (which not all F800s models have, BTW).

My example is in great shape. Here are the details that should be of interest:
- Clean title in my hands
- Registered through June 2020
- To the best of my knowledge, never crashed/tipped over/whatever
- BMW dealer maintenance history from time of my purchase (everything they did to the bike, including recall work and new water pump)
- Valves were just checked by an independent mechanic (all in spec) and spark plugs replaced
- Under 27k on the odometer (it's just getting warmed up!)
- ABS (factory)
- Brembo brakes front and rear (factory)
- Trip computer (factory)
- Gear indicator (factory)
- Adjustable levers (factory)
- Steel-braided brake lines for better feel and stopping power
- Wunderlich centerstand to help with rear tire changes and maintenance
- Belt drive (no worries about messy cleaning and lubing every 500 miles, handles rain easily)
- Single-sided swingarm for easy rear tire changes
