Good thing he's not in a hurry to sell. He'll be its proud owner for a long time unless he cuts his price in half and then subtracts another $1K from that

Maybe this is really Triple Threat selling another optimistically-priced motorcycle?
(Re: the GSXR Movistar Telefonica for sale: http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433064)

BTW, if you read this, Triple Threat, last you stated was "I have a "really" strong offer pending" - did you sell the bike?

If he did that I'd want it. If it were a CS-2 Standard or CS Tracker. And street legal.

Decent looking bike, too bad the engine's cam chain tensioning system is a complete piece of shit.

Seriously, who designs an engine that the cam chain has to be replaced every 10-15k miles?

I think that problem is overstated. I owned a DR650 and never had an issue and it isn't mentioned very much on ADVRIDER.com.

I think a reasonable higher price would be $4,000. The Suzuki 650cc motor is a decent performer and if one wanted a reliable well thought out cafe design they could do a lot worse.

That being said I would be topped out at about $3,000.

Not overstated.
Cam Chain system design is a piece of shit. Period. End of Story.
I had one grenade on me at 20k miles.
Literally, grenade.
The tensioner is designed in a way that a metal plunger and spring can actually pop out, and wreak havoc inside of the engine.

Pictures cannot lie: Here's your proof that it's a piece of shit.

2 More millimeters, and it grenades. This is ALWAYS less than 20k miles.
Here's another engine. 14,000 miles.

There are a ton more, just like it.

Look up the Savage forum and read about the Verslavy mod.

That is how you fix it.

Nice looking but plate position and lack of rear turn signals might get you into fix it heaven with the LEO's.

Damned expensive to boot.

The kit is $2,500 (before tax and options) so, obviously, you aren't going to get it for $3,000.

Those kits are actually pretty cool (eye of the beholder... I know)
The biggest problems for me would be wondering about the quality of craftsmanship on the build side and the condition of the engine on the donor side.
That said, I have toyed with taking on one of these projects but would only be interested if I found the donor bike and I did the build.
Beyond that, I don't see the point.
