08 GSXR Starting Issue (tipover?)

I bought this bike from a friend and aside from rashed fairings it appears that nothing was obviously or severely damaged. I'm trying to power it up to see what's going on but can't get the bike powered up.

I hooked it up to the battery tender, and turned the key to the ON position. The cluster lit up signifying that it was getting power, but it was turning on/off intermittently and wasn't displaying anything on the cluster.

The headlight slowly powered on too (lowbeam), it dimly lit and took a full second before it reached it's peak brightness (still super dim). When i flicked the highbeam on, the power cut off completely. But since the battery hasn't been charged in awhile, it could be that it's completely 100% dead and not holding any charge. With the extra draw of the hi-beam, it might have sent feedback to the battery tender to set off the relay to cut power.

Is there a protocol after a tipover/accident to get the bike back into a 'ready' mode so I could troubleshoot further? It is due for an R/R recall, but I'd like to sort out a few things before taking it in for that.

-Starting with a new battery some time this coming week when I have time. :thumbup

Make sure it spends a lot of time on the tender early in its life, and get the VRR dealt with.

i don't think the R/R is dead yet since my friend rode the bike up until he brushed up with a volvo and panic'd, but that'll be first on the list when I get this thing running. I want it to be in relatively good shape before I get the recall done just in case the tech puts notes down. but i'll get on it as soon as monday comes and I have a day free from studies :)

Try some process of elimination troubleshooting steps, such as trying to jump start the bike from a car battery (car key off).

And don't play the R/R is fubar guessing game. If you can get the bike running take some voltage readings at they battery when the bike is off and when the bike is running and report back with results.

Will do. I have a warranty-replacement for a moto battery I got awhile back for my ZX6. Looks like the groupsize will fit to get the bike started/juiced.

As for the R/R, I don't have to play the guessing game with a recall note do I? :p I assume GGC got me covered.
