0-60 MPH in 2.8 Seconds

They call it Ludicrous mode.

Apparently, 0-60 MPH in 3.2 seconds for the Tesla Model S P85D -"insane mode" was not insane enough, so not they are offering a upgrade of the battery pack and a smart fuse. The upgraded 90KWhr pack pushes the car's range to 300 miles.

The Model X SUV with this upgrade will do 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. The Model X will begin deliveries in 2 months.

Tesla is still designing the Model III, which is the ~$35,000 starting before intensives 'affordable electric car' in 2 years.

To build the Model III, Tesla is not building and staffing the battery 'Gigafactory' in Nevada which will produce batteries for its cars, Tesla Energy and other customers.

Tesla is going to make something that costs less than a 500e? :rofl

Wonder how their sales are doing now anyways, since there are now income limits on who qualifies for the incentives.

LEO's are going to get to perfect their exhibition of speed/rabbit start explanations to a lot of Tesla owners.

How many miles does the 2.8 second suck from the range? Can't wait for the review: You can do 0-20 in 2.8sec eight times OR 300 miles if you drive like a granny or one 2.8 run and 260 miles or :insertalgebrahere

My buddy has a P85D. (An upgrade from his past p85+something). It's not just the range that's sucks when you really stomp on it. His first set of tires.... Get ready.... Needed at 1,000 miles. This is more about his driving style than anything else. Insane mode? Well... It is aptly named.

No, they're not. The Model III is going cost mid $30s base and close to $50k optioned the way most buyers will want it. Today was more Tesla hype.

BTW, if the Model X sells even moderately well, Tesla will have mostly or entirely exhausted its incentives by the time the Model III starts selling. Those incentives are based on a fixed level of cumulative unit sales before they phase out.

The Model S P85 has been known to eat tires as well, though not that quickly. I've read some owners have replaced tires below 10k.

lol - dont have a model s, but would be quite happy to get anything close to ten grand from a set of tires. howler plows through them at an alarming rate somewhat stupidly less than that.

Wow, it takes my SV at least 3.1 seconds to 60 mph. That's impressive.

People have trouble launching bikes, while the bike may very well be capable of this, i'd assume for the average rider you can tack on at least another second to any advertised times.

Tesla hate as usual. Why you hate america bro?

Even $50k is a good deal. Has anyone gone to the stealership lately? Fully options trucks are breaking $60k, nice sedans easily break $50k. Your "low end" cars break $20k before tax a license. My V6 Camaro (Yes a mistake) cost me almost $30k when I bought it. That was with barely any options, only with the RS package.

PS: If I remember correctly, Elon stated that the $35k price tag was BEFORE incentives. If so, they won't need incentives. The price point is based on him saying half the price of the Model S, which before incentives is like $60-70k for the lowest model.

Are 0-60 times a large selling point?

I could live with it beings above 4.5 secs.

Yes, even if you don't use it.

The hurdles that EVs are trying to get over is that they are slow, ugly, low range, slow to recharge.

Tesla has addressed these. The hardest one is the fast charge and the Superchargers are fairly widespread now. The Superchargers charge in 30 min. for 2.6 hours of driving. I don't ever really drive that long strait, but its a major sticking point for some.

2.6 hours ain't shit
Unless you're rolling in the dough electric cars are retarded.

As a second or third car, I think it's viable. If your commute is only 45 minutes you can drive to/from work with enough charge for groceries or dinner afterwards.

I would look at it like a motorcycle. As sole mode of transport it's garbage, but it fits a need that some have.

I would love a Model S, but no way can I afford one.

I'm more impressed with the 300 mile range.

To this day I still have never seen anyone in a Model S giving it the whip.

300 miles would take 4.6 hours at 65 MPH, but the Superchargers are faster when they don't top, so driving 2-3 hours and taking a break and charging is the fastest way to drone away on the highway.

FYI, charging a electric car is like going back to less than $1/gallon gas.

Yea agreed, as somebody whos had a moto as my only form of transportation, never again :laughing

Actually if it ever comes down to a single vehicle again i don't think it'll ever be anything other than a pick up if at all possible.

Back on topic, say your job cans you and you have to move to Kansas for work. There won't be any charging stations that's for damn sure, hell, you can't even drive your car THERE so you need to get it towed. How much does it cost to put a charging station into your home? Another expense if you have to move. Like you said, multiple cars is one thing, but as THE car to go to, hell no. Ask me again in 20 years and i bet it's still hell no :laughing

:thumbup (or :thumbdown)) Getting tire spinning power to the ground (without the tire getting eaten)
might be something that needs learning, in this new world. :thumbup

My buddy has P85D its unbelievably fast and has enough range for him to drive like an ass and do the 100 mile round trip commute. The weird part is that you can't help bracing for the gear changes that never happen. Its a heavy pig and handles like a yacht. They also cost $130,000 fully optioned and the giant center display is always an ugly mess of greasy finger smudges.

My wife drove my EVO with a buddy following in a different P85D. Her buddy nearly went off the road twice trying to keep up and my wife thought she was just cruising along LOL.

Longer trips are a real pain. My buddy insisted on taking his on a round trip to Reno for a business meeting and we had to stop and recharge 3 times. My Audi TDI does the round trip on less than one tank of diesel and an hour quicker.
