Standard/Naked Shoot Off

SV650, FZ6, Street Triple, Monster 620/696, Etcetera

Sv1000, FZ1, Speed Triple, Etcetera

Fill in the rest of the list!! There are far more standard, naked/half faired bikes then this :)

If anyone has any opinions or experience with any of these or other comparable motos, Please share!!

I am looking for a replacement moto, and these are the sorts of bikes I'm after. It would help a lot to hear about your experience with them, or your friend's experience with them or your general opinions, or specific details! Reliability, rideability, usability, practicality, etcetera, etcetera. What did you think of any and how would you say they compare to each other? All great bikes I'm sure, but I'm asking for the differences between them.

I plan to use it for a bit of everything which is why I'm focusing on stsndard motos. It doesn't need to take me to Canada and it doesn't need to set hot lap times at the track. I would like it to take me around the bay in a day (which anything will depending on comfort) and it must feel at home on page mill, alpine road, pescadero, and 84. Reliability, dependability and how well it takes high milage are probably the most important considerations because this will be a long term relationship. But I will sacrifice reliability, practicality, and comfort for something truly majestic. ;)

Anything you have to say or offer, I would love to hear!! Thanks:ride

What do you want to do with it? Street, track, both? Long trips? Short local twisties? Dirt? City rides? Etcetera. Etc.

sckego

doesn't like crashing
MV Brutale has a smaller-cc triple as well as the big I-4.

Aprilia Tuono, 1000cc V-4

Does Honda still make the 919 or the 599?

Love my street triple. 675 is a stout and reliable motor.

However, that MV Augusta Brutale 800 is a fucking seeexxxy triple.

Edited original post for your question! :)

I'm glad to hear some other options I haven't thought of!!!!! But what are these bikes like to live with?? And how long have you done so?

superduke 990, 1290 - no experience with teh 1290 but the 990 is a fantastic machine. very reliable in my experience. several friends have had them and no real issues. wheelie machines and grin inducers.

Some bigger monsters as well. - you know what you're getting into but it deosn't matter. Great bikes imo and they're not unreliable. they just need schedudled maintenance done which is typical of euro vehicles.

Hypermotard? - same as above but more compliant with bumps. One of the best bikes I've ever ridden. I prefer the big aircooled ones but thats personal.

You can do anything on any bike, as the saying goes.

I've done long distance on my street triple, and while it wasn't the worst thing ever, doing it on a fully faired sport touring bike would have been a lot nicer.

So be prepared to be more tired and less comfortable on any naked bike, compared to a half/full faired bike.

Don't forget Tuono V4 vs Superduke 1290 vs S1000R. Before my current Tuono, I had a fully modded FZ1. Comparing the two, the Tuono has all the fancy electronics where the FZ was fully analog. I never knew what I was missing before, and now I'd never want to go back. It's a '12 though so no ABS, which would be nice in the wet. Size-wise they are very similar, but the Tuono feels more compact and is a tad bit more flickable, but not by much. Seating position on the Tuono has slightly more forward lean but otherwise feels very similar. The pegs on the Tuono are in the same spot as they were on my FZ after adding rearsets. Engine-wise, the Tuono has more pull everywhere than the FZ even after all the mods. On the FZ, the fueling was flawless after the ECU flash, where on the Tuono, the fueling is good, but jerky at low speeds at low throttle openings. The stock Tuono fueling though is about as good as the FZ1 fueling after adding a Power Commander but before the flash. Suspension is an unfair comparison as I have Ohlins on both ends of my Tuono. With a bigger windscreen, the Tuono is definitely a better bike than the FZ everywhere. That being said, I still really miss my FZ1. It was really an awesome do-it-all bike for much cheaper than the Tuono to buy and maintain.

On a side note, I've really been wanting to ride an FZ09. They just look really fun. I've just heard all the complaints about fueling and suspension. If the stock shock on the FZ1 was absolute garbage, I can't imagine how bad it is on the 09. There is a free ECU flash available at the dealers now though which should help smooth out the fueling issues.

It's not my fault...

You should take a '15 out. The motor is just flat fantastic. Pulls like a freight train from 2-11K RPMs. I got my ECU flashed from the factory and it is a much smoother ride. I threw on a ZX6RR shock and it is a night and day difference as the stock shock was CRAP. Now I'll just replace the front springs/oil and I'll have a nice budget build.

Yes, the motor is definitely one of the best points I've heard about the bike. It really just looks like a bike that makes you feel like a kid when you're on it!

I have heard nothing but good things about the street triple. The SV650 is also hard to beat as an all arounder.

Page mill and alpine...Nimble, light, upright, and with handlebars. Those listed in the 650 range would be a good start, although IMHO the monster doesn't really get much wow over the others.

I went from an FZ6 - Street Triple. Street triple is 10x the fun.

FZ6 offered better highway riding. But around town and in the twisties, Street Triple, hands down.

I even have a Daytona 675 shock you could put in an non R street triple, should you want a cheap and easy way to improve the rear.

SV1000N for all round bike. I test-drove FZ1 - nice looking and I was very much attracted - and SV1000 was much easier to ride. FZ1 I test-drove had some bad hick-ups at the low end. I had to rev it to 5K to get smooth power. Below 5K, the engine wasn't smooth. SV1000 provides very linear power curve from the idle to whatever. So for a guy like me with 80% commute and the rest pleasure riding, SV1000 is the choice.
