Tiger, Hire a Driver

Rolls with it...
In high school I witnessed a classmate roll a Mercury Capri when he hit a median doing 60 plus in a 25... :laughing

(I saw on FB he just retired from the DEA.)

I'm wondering if him being used to much, much better vehicles was a factor in this accident. With a high performance car you can do things that a SUV like this would not even begin to handle.

I'm sure there were many factors to it but, to me, they all begin and end with him being "asleep" at the wheel.

I was heading up 280 one morning (2011 or so) in the HOV lane, no traffic just cruising at 70 behind a car. She drifted to the left and went up a tiny embankment leading up to an overpass/bridge a la Sand Hill... Two wheel in the dirt, two in the street... the moment she returned to the street, the car was sideways and on it's back.

blink of an eye upside down.

I stopped and helped her out, she was terrified that her baby was in the back seat. No baby... Must have been terrifying for her to awaken to her car flipping over and then me with my moto helmet and full leathers on breaking her drivers side window to help her out :laughing

We chatted as she calmed down and we waited on support, she was en route to work after having dropped said baby off at grandmas. She fell asleep.

From what I saw of a video of the accident scene, he must have been traveling very fast, possibly triple digits. I wonder if he exceeded the aerodynamic capabilities of the vehicle, went past the speed rating on the tires or just over-corrected and the crappy suspension couldn't handle the correction. He's damn lucky to still be alive.
Right.. exceeded the speed rating of the tires? Don’t think so.. haha

I call bullshit. :teeth
If you could put that thing on the roof I would've done it.
I had a Capri in high school. It had a chubby little V6 stuffed in it. That thing hauled ass. In fact my license plate was 1FASTV6
I really miss that car.

Swear.

To.

God! (... and it was right in front of the Carmel Mission :laughing)

He tried to pass me on my RD, went in to the turn lane, but didn't make it back before hitting the median that didn't have a turn lane... pretty much unchanged since then. Lotsa sparks as it slid on its roof.

Kids.

I believe you.
I'd post a pic of my high school Capri but all I have is shots of the mirror with a beautiful seascape in the background.:laughing
I'm jealous of your RD. I remember the RD crowd at my school. They were the cool guys. :cool
I had a 1973 Honda XL250. That's another vehicle I wish I could've hung on to. I miss that bike. Fond memories. I am the rider I am today as a result of my time on that bike. Bombing Mt. Tam on worn enduro knobbies was an education in itself.

I was nowhere near the cool kids.... :( :laughing

It was a fun bike, though.

Back on topic, Tiger's also an ad spokesman for Hero bikes....

His injuries seem consistent with the dash/console collapsing down on his legs.

That requires quite an impact... I guess I'm in the "He's lucky to be alive" camp. :dunno

cnn article said:
Tiger Woods' car accident occurred on a stretch of road known for high speeds and prone to crashes, L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said a news conference Tuesday.

"At the time it [Woods' SUV] crossed the center divider, to the point that it rested, was several hundred feet away, so obviously that indicates they were going at a relatively greater speed than normal," Villanueva said.

"Because it is downhill, it slopes, and also it curves. That area has a high frequency of accidents. It's not uncommon," the sheriff added.

so, crash prone area, perhaps not all that familiar with it. unfamiliar car, probably speeding.

yep, lucky to be alive.

Car looks badly crumpled but modern cars are supposed to crumple in a crash to buffer the occupants.

The engine is sitting next the barrel rolled vehicle. That's a HIT.

It's shockingly easy to roll a car. If you've never seen one happen live real time, it's so hard to understand the mechanism.

Tiger hit the median and, I assume, overcorrected. Once he was in the dirt, all done.

Modern stability control has changed the world for vehicle rollovers...when they're on the road. Most rollovers happen after vehicle depart the paved surface. Given he hit the center media and the left front (and right front) tires are badly torn, he likely hit the center media and jumped it. Once in the air, the stability control systems get all wonky and with flat tires, they can work against the driver. I'm betting on distracted driving, speed, impact with curbing and the rest, he was along for the ride. That vehicle has a lot of front/ rear damage.

I'm with ya on it.

We know he was traveling northbound and hit the median first before ending up off to the right side of the road.

it looks like he hit a brick wall, so I'm assuming he went end over end. Which is probably why his legs are so jacked. I think "stood up" on them when the car planted the front against the ground.

I wish there was footage... it had to have been marvelous.

Auntieblings quote is interesting as well.

Mama says he's bona fide
This is where it happened:

He hit the median here, crossed into the oncoming lanes, traveled about 100yd past the second utility pole in the distance (almost to the third), and ran off the road into the brush.

In news coverage I saw deputies measuring tire marks on the median, and from aerial video I saw where the car came to rest.

He was hauling ass.

I especially like the already-hit 45mph sign on the right too!

Matt: Cold tire crash...

uhhh... what is this maps tag?

:laughing

I guess I need to go look into vbulletin tags to see what all is available.

Check out the vb code of the post. It's not super difficult but not often used.

You sound like people on BARF years ago when they started to ask how to post youtube videos. :p
