I've been driving by there the past couple months for work and saw it, immediately thought of you. :-(

It sucks, but at least they got the driver. DUI or cranial rectitis? I've been seeing a whole lot more of the CR lately, people are out of their fookin' minds! :wow

No DUI.. just a two car collision that sent one careening off the road.
I assume one of them had cranial rectitis.. :rofl

probably. I could have taken the day off. for me it was just the optics of closing thursday then opening the day before a long weekend. We're generally self-motivated and very willing to do extra if needed, it felt very unnecessary and those of us who were there, weren't elated.

I'm not positive about if anyone quit over having to go in. it'd be hard for me to tell, as most people (the ones who don't work in the labs or support the facility) are still wfh and I already see so few each day. I do know one guy accelerated his retirement timeline a little and cashed in this month. other than that...no clue.

I know the score though. I haven't missed a dollar of pay and have even received a small merit increase over the last 3 months. I didn't succeed in my career enough so that I could be in the position to send others to work instead of myself. Not going to whine about it. Fortunately us lab rats are pretty conscious of distancing and PPE.

Well, we had a few company wide phone/webex meetings this week. One for the furloughed employees like me, and one for the division of the company that I work for which is Corporate Audio Visual like trade shows, Keynote meetings, and large corporate hotel meets with breakout rooms plus a lot of broadcast sports/television/film... Our sister (parent) company is heavy into Broadway, concerts and touring and large events. The Broadcast part is the only thing making any money right now between the two companies. I am specialized in the Corporate AV side.

They don't expect any of us to be back to work in any capacity until this time 2021 and that would be at a greatly reduced workforce. They don't expect to start rebuilding the company until 2022.

Furlough extended through Sept, but our health benefits through August (We're still paying our normal health care amount and the company has been paying the rest) They said to expect mass layoffs soon. I totally expected this, and I'm prepared for it. I think they need time to get all the paperwork done since we have almost 4000 employees in North America.

My division of the company was informed of more furloughs, and location closures.. Those still on staff have taken up to 50% pay cuts to stay on. Of the 140 in sales like me we're down to 29 nationally. We had around 30 locations in North America. They don't expect to get back to these numbers ever and think we might end up bringing back 80 of the original 140 when we get back to full business - Pretty bleak for us.

There will be a lot of opportunities in our industry in a few years for those left standing. I don't think my division of our company will be one of them, and that will create a very large vacuum that others will have to fill. There will however be a huge glut of people in our industry competing for the available jobs when they do come back. Your skill set, and who you know will be what gets you back in the door. Lots of house cleaning for getting rid of unpopular employees.

The Rona is hitting the events industry really hard. So many of my friends and associates are ass out... Conventions, Concerts, SF Opera, Symphony, Film festivals, weddings, ect..

I'm looking forward to my own personal reinvention for the future and to continue taking my year off, but this sucks for a lot of people. I've been in the industry for over 20 years and at this company in my current position for 17 years so I needed the break anyway..

Shit is tough for sure for many people. I feel lucky even though....

My biz is still dog paddling and I am going nuts trying to keep it afloat. Had to get an extension on a loan because I can’t afford to pay it and pay the other bills.

Sit in an office all alone that cost 7500 bux a month.
Late there too but I will catch up.

My guys texting me for work? Takes a lot of time to set up the basic drafters. The more advance skills of an architect not as much but still a ton of making sure the end product is right.

Working 6-1/2 days a week. Brain over loaded with digital input. :loco

Really good at faking chipper with Clients even though I am far from chipper.

Walk thru the office swearing at nobody at least twice a day. :laughing

When friends text me happy Friday I am chipper with them too... mostly. Friday is not different because Saturday is not different. Sunday’s are different because there is some racing to watch. Thank God.

Still going to work 5 days a week in an essential business.

The Boss lady / owner has mellowed considerably since early March and is more realistic now about what is really happening.

I hope the following statement isn't judged to be political.

She's a dyed in the wool conservative, and as such tends to follow a certain mindset.

We are struggling to gain new business and customers, but are holding our own at this point.

I hope to retire from this gig in 4 years after being employed here for 36 years....

Starting in August, some work started rolling in. Carriers (AT&T, VZW, T-Mo) are scrambling to get 5G deployed for when the iPhone 12 rolls out. That and generators being added to sites for backup. Nice little invoice for August and setting up well for September. But most importantly, the carriers are now releasing $$ for backlogged projects as well as building out for 5G. Looks like solid work for 18 months when it rolls in. Still need to make 3x, but getting there.

In other news, my unemployment claim JUST got paid. I had given up on it so it is a nice surprise that will help me get to the end of the year.

Cool Chill.. :thumbup

We are slowing down again. I think corps expected this to be controlled a bit more and are now looking at 2021 for perhaps some relief.

I had to lay off one person as I could not keep carrying paying them some to stay an employee. Hoping I can avoid more.

Last Sunday I kind of hit a wall. I worked 1/2 a day and was just not productive so I said fuck it and went home and laid in bed until I went to sleep basically. :facepalm

The smoke is making it worse for motivation. :rant

End of this week is supposed to clear.. hope that helps.

I got called back to work in late June. I didn't go. According to my coworkers who did go back, it was a very smart decision.

I was a PBX operator and control clerk for the Hyatt in SF. I had a cushy office, handled all calls coming into the hotel, did all the reports and paperwork the FD agents used to do, assisted reservations, blocked rooms and filled holes, and helped on special projects for the housekeeping and engineering departments. I also handled the Air Canada accounts. Pretty sweet job after being on the front desk for years. My job was the first one eliminated. In-House Reservations, Concierge, Market Cashier and Lobby Porter soon followed. When they called me back to work, they informed me that it would be as a Front Desk Agent. So basically I'd be doing my old job while working the desk, in addition to handling reservations, concierge, and running the market (gift shop, grab-and-go food items, coffee and pastries in the morning, etc.) I wasn't happy about the exposure angle of working the desk, and voiced my concerns to my HR director. She had no idea about the pending kidney donation and was speechless when I told her about it. She mentioned that there was no lobby porter anymore and that I'd have to clean the lobby, elevators and public restrooms, and she didn't think that was a good idea for me. Yeah, no kidding! My husband and I had already discussed the situation and decided I wouldn't go back until after my sister's transplant. Even if I lost my unemployment benefits and job, it just wasn't worth it. Long story short my HR gal was impressed, and I will keep my seniority if/when I go back, and HR kept my benefits flowing.

Not sure what the future holds for me but I am not worrying about it. I realize this is a luxury that I am very fortunate to have.

:wow

That is very conservative... I hope!

It was a couple different things that drove the decision.

In order to make sufficient room for manufacturing to maintain throughput, we moved a few lines from Milpitas to our HQ on the peninsula. We did the same at another plant and office on the east coast. Office space is at a premium.

It's on a team and role basis. I am very capable working remote as are a lot of staff members.

Employee frustrations surrounding any sort of long term planning was really high.

Felt it best to put a stick in the sand and reevaluate at that time. We may return to work before that time but there is no expectation/requirement that you do so until July 1.

Since the topic has been in the news as of recent:
We operate in all 50 states and have been for the life of the company, established pay scales have already been determined. Employees that decide to relocate will be subject to the "local" market pay scale. If I stay in CA, there is no pay adjustment but if I leave, there will be one. (Also, if you were local and you move the company may not cover transportation costs for in-person required meetings... this is TBD, we're still trying to figure it out)

I might be getting a J O B in October. :wow

L2 Customer Support Engineer for a computer/network security company. It's based in the UK so a trip over there 1x/qtr for a week, and the rest WFH.

Not sure how I feel about it, it's tech (again), and full-time. :x

On the plus side, full bennies and the prerequisite tech salary.:teeth
