Adventure riding short rides and BS thread

Great stuff Eric!

I finally cajoled some friends to go out on an Adventure Bike ride. My first real dirt on the 990 and it was dreamy.

The plan had been to slab up 80 to Hwy 20 and ride out to Bowman Lake or further and camp. Then loop around to Henness Pass road and back to 49..

The dirt section started with the washed out bridge.

The roads were super fun on the 990 and the GS800 but not so much on the GSA

The Bowman Lake is beautiful

View from my cot

We got water from a creek that feeds the lake and filtered it.

I told these guys that it was all smooth and easy with a few rock sections, but it was actually the other way around. It was pretty much all rock with a few flat smooth sections.

The 990 didn’t flinch… I felt like I was riding my XR..

I think I might have been cheating with the knobbies.

After picking up the GS five or six times we decided to pass on the Hennes pass section because Leo had told be it was easy but he got sick of the rocks. We just went out to 89 and took 49 back to Auburn.. 49 is fun on any bike..

Nice Pics and write up Michael. Dirt bikes need dirt tires. It looks like your buddy is trying to use the Force to get the GSA up.

Great stuff Mike! Looks like fun. Fun is a relative term, of course. I’d be doing that on a little bike.
Tom, I think he’s scolding the GS.

... fun destinations Eric B and Cabrito! :thumbup

I have not been to either Signal Peak or
Bowman Lake/Henness Pass ... :ride

edit: sorry I missed this year's Backwoods Bash ...
never been to the Relief Reservoir overlook, either! :laughing

Looks like an awesome ride for both of you. Riding those giant bikes in that stuff looks like a workout Cabrito.

Wow! All kinds of good stuff in here lately! Beautiful rides and photos, Eric B and Cabrito! :love Thanks for posting them up! I wouldn't mind doing the Bungee Brent ride someday. I've been down to Relief Reservoir and was blown away at how warm the water was. I'd love to get out there again someday, too.

There is an old stone cabin, that was for fire spotting when the train came through -
This place is worth a visit. I don't think I could make that loose hill on my DS bike, but there is a road up from the Cisco Grove exit that is supposed to be much smoother. Go check it out. :ride

I've reached that spot on my xr650l via Cisco grove, no problems, just a little loose rock and steep in places.

Daaaang, that was out at Bowman? That's my favorite area to day trip in the summer. If you didn't make it to Faucherie, make sure to stop there next time. It's a beautiful little lake.

Sweet pics! How are those Mitas E-10s on the highway?

E-10 on the rear was great all around. The Perelli MT21 up front scream/whistles like crazy... It's annoying, but to me both tires handle pavement, and the dirty stuff just fine.

... kill me, now ... :facepalm
... how I hate spinning wrenches ... :rolleyes

:laughing

... my parts back by UPS today, from the machinist ...

... placed an OEM order with my local dealer ...
after a couple of three weeks, went in to see what
the delay was ... figured they had to come from
Japan or something ... :dunno

... parts guy says "oh ... when I got
back from vacation, I saw that the parts numbers
for the piston had been superseded ... they should
be here in a couple days ..." :toothless

... see you in
the garage, :party

Did some more exploring, near the Sacto PITS property(near Cisco Grove) -

The OHV trail to Fordyce Creek. I split of to checkout the Eagle Lakes area.

Looks like Half Dome -

Fordyce Creek is down in the valley. It was flowing pretty well. I didn't have enough sunlight to continue down to the creek. Another time.
