Z2 10/13 Sears Pt. post mortem

Motorcycle RN

Pretty Vacant
Rode a tumultuous track day @ Sears today. My RGV 250 was running like a top and handling like a dream. I snaked a ride along in a GTR for four awesome laps. Then in the first session after lunch while entering the track I crashed hard. After a ride in the back of an ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital I was diagnosed with a broken left clavicle. Special thanks to the track workers who came to my aid and the medics who transported me. Also thank you Alex & Erin for loading my truck!
A few questions. Did anyone see my crash (blue RGV 250)? I remember braking hard on the track entrance by Turn 1, rolling on the throttle, and biting pavement.
Also, does anyone know the identity of the GTR owner in garage #38? I wanted to show him the video I shot on the ride along.
Lastly, does anyone know the identity of the guy on the white Aprilia RS250? Nice guy. I wanted to pick his brain some more.
I've already scored a subframe for the RGV. We'll be back! :ride

First of all, SO GLAD you're essentially okay. Sorry about the broken clavicle.

Your accident happened directly in front of me. In fact, I had a rather exciting moment dodging both you on the pavement and your bike as it was flying towards me after it rebounded off the pit wall. It was a little dicey there for a moment.

I'm happy to post what I saw here or send it to you via PM. Again, I can't tell you how glad I am to see you posting here and learning that you're recovering and will be back. You hit the pavement HARD.

Let me know if you want the accident description posted in open forum or not.

I was at the Track Day with you (I do not have any video of you crashing though) and it was a rough day for people, I think 7 crashes and 3 or 4 mechanical issues. Glad to hear you're on the mend! Heal up!

It was quite the relief when I saw you get up and walk into the ambulance.

I'll post the vid in the GT-R group.

Sorry to hear about your crash, and glad to hear you're ok. I was with a friend who brought a gtr, what color was the one you rode in? Was he pitted in the garages closest to the fuel pumps?

I'm so glad to hear that you're doing well, Scott! I hope the RGV can get zip-tied and JB welded back together, but in the meantime, heal up and hope to pit with you again in the near future!

The battle damage. Only reason I can think of for crashing like that is hitting something slippery.:wtf

T1 is not a corner where you brake hard. It's a corner where you brake on straightline entry and continue to brake softly all the way to the apex. Then get bike stood up partially before rolling one. If you're rolling on early with the bike leaned over in one, that's probably what happened.

I wasn't even in the corner. I was on the track entrance. I was trying to heat my tires with a second of hard acceleration followed by hard straight line braking. According to Squidly I went into a tankslapper and crashed hard as evidenced by this X-ray:

Leaned over or upright? I do the same thing, I accel to the corner and brake fairly hard before turning, but I never do it leaned over. That's when I tiptoe for the first lap or so, in corners.

I did the same thing at Thunderhill years ago. Turned out of the Pit area into the hot pits, got on the gas a bit, and spun up the rear and highsided.

It was in the hot pit; we weren't on the track yet. He accelerated hard while fully upright. No problems there. The front wheel came down, went into a tank slapper and spit him off pretty hard. I was probably less than 30 feet behind him when it happened. I had to dodge left to avoid the rider on the ground. After clearing the rider I had to roll on throttle to avoid the bike flying in from my right. The bike skidded to the right then rebounded off the concrete wall and flew towards me. It was quite the scene.

I think something may have flown off the bike and hit me in the arm. I've got a pretty cool purple/yellow/green silver dollar sized bruise on my right bicep I can't explain. :thumbup

Again, I'm VERY glad you're posting about the incident and on the mend. I still have visions of seeing you slide face down across the track right in front of my bike.

The xray looks nice :thumbup. Good to see all your ribs still intact. I wasn't so lucky. Collar bone in multiple pieces and I snapped every damn rib on the right side. My ribs overlap instead of being striaght; permanently.

Wheelie was unintentional--happened when the motor came on the pipe.
Thanks for missing me Squidly and sorry about any projectiles thrown at you.
Will hopefully have me & the bike up and running again soon.

Scott, as long as you're doing well and on the mend it's all good. Sorry about the boken collar bone and sorry about how sore you are right now. It's definitely no fun! Glad to hear your intentions for getting the bike back up and running.

I'd suggest that you probably know when the bike is going to come on the pipe and could have easily avoided this with less throttle.

Glad you are mostly OK man. The bike looked like it took quite a tumble.

P.S. Bassem also helped to load it on to a truck. No way I could have pushed damn thing up that ramp by myself. :laughing
