WTF; ktm 310mm rotor/beringer carrier...

I replaced carrier on a customers bike, and checked out a friends bike and it is also hammered.

Anyone ever get that setup to last?

I understand floating. I fully grasp the concept. But seeing how beat to hell the carrier's are on TWO bikes, in only a couple thousand miles. What a racket, it is a bit over 170$ for just the carrier and buttons.

Is there an alternative 310mm rotor that will work with the beringer caliper? If there is I bet id have 3 sold right away.

I have never seen another rotor that is so loose out of the box. Bad engineering.

The Beringer stuff is considered top shelf. I've been using it for a while with no wear problems. I know what you mean about the play between the carrier and the rotor - it does seem excessive even when new and increases with use.

I am pretty sure there is more play in the Beringer rotor because the disc is iron instead of stainless like most rotors. If you ever get the chance, recheck the play after the rotor comes off of the track when it's hot. You will see that there is less play.

I have a used KTM red carrier that is in good shape that I can sell for $50 if anyone needs it.

I have complete Berringer 6 piston system on my KTM 450 EXC that I have been thrashing SM track/backroads for over 3 years with no issue what so ever. Yeah the rotors are a little loose but it does not take away from performance. I have gone through 1 set of regular pads and 2 sets of racing pads. Berringer are top of the line, expensive as shit but im my opinion worth it when you need to stop..NOW..

No, side to side is ok.

Front to rear slop or play is BAD, eventually they can loosen up enough to bind on the caliper or drag.

Here is the skinny;

Beringer at one point redesigned the buttons. The black "beringer" buttons are thicker with more "meat" and the wavy washers are 2mm taller and about TWICE as thick. I suspect this is why some people have got considerably more time from their carrier. Both ktm's I have seen had the old style, one I replaced the buttons and carrier with new thus redesigned and it is back to normal.

The berg has the Beringer caliper and a KTM wave rotor (310). 14k miles and no problems at all. Bought a Braking 310 wave rotor for the spare set of wheels that I have slicks on. Still, no problems.

Frankly, my wallet kept me from purchasing the Beringer Rotor. Those bad boys are spendy.

yup, you can always go that route, stock SMR KTM rotors were 310mm made by Braking, you can get new ones from the hard parts catalog still. 07-current SMR's are magura setups. still 310mm.

check ebay, i sold my used stock 310 braking for like $85 so they can be had for cheap.
