Don't get me wrong, I am all for people having fun on bikes. Just quit being blantant shitbags about it.

1: Use throttle lightly when you have a loud pipes and you're in a neighborhood.

2: Turn that shit off (Music in town)

3: Do wheelies where no one but you and your Instagram buddies have to watch you

4: Don't fucking split with your hazards on. As a matter of fact, don't use your hazards ever.

There's more, but that's the idea, right?

100% Nailed it. My neighborhood is rife with #1,2 & 3 and I dream of some vigilante justice. :afm199

sorry, was just poking fun at myself ...
knew you weren't talking about
mom-n-pop AMA sweater clubs ... :thumbup

... what do you think about the idea
that most non-motorcycle people
basically hate us no matter what,
and that most of us fade in and out
of the sport before really making a
difference one way or the other ...? :dunno

sure, there's something to be said
for being an ambassador for the sport, but ...

... have to say that a gang of urban outlaw
dirtbikers riding on the sidewalks in the
city always makes me smile, that I love
the radio/undercarriage light subculture,
and laughed-out-loud at the audacity of
amplifying engine noise ... :laughing

... anyway ... none of my bikes have flashers ... :afm199

I get the anti-social high risk nature of motorcycles. Some variation of that concept is what brought all of us here. I wish I could romanticize the underground nature of it all. I do envy the urban dirt bikers and 1%ers to an extent. To be honest, the urban guys are borderline excuseable as "just kids". I think the world needs a little bit of youth that refuse to conform. I mean, just about every single anti-social behavior has been commercialzed at this point. Not even Punk Rock is safe. Those guys are a reminder that the "Wild West" is more than a cliche movie. There was a time when people dueled, and murderers could live a fairly long lifespan.

The reality is that those times are in the past, and we live in a reality where the majority of people want to be protected. We as a society can't simply defend ourselves. We don't get to simply "win a fight". So, what's an outlaw to do? You have to be smart. You can be anti-social. You can be an asshole. You just have to be smart about it. The blatant shitty behavior will disturb thenatives enough that they'll legislate you out of existence. It's already happening to smokers. I don't smoke, and I agree with limiting smoking to designated areas. That said, it's easy to see the trend that's eroding away at those designated areas. On a long enough timeline, it's easy to see cigarettes go away. They're already being replaced with vaping, but the precedents set around cigarettes are easily applied to vapes. See where I'm going?

Yeah, yeah, tin foil hat.

Meanwhile, knock the blatant shit off, quit fucking with the masses and contain your mischief until I can't ride anymore.

some of the HD crowd is now using digital exhaust enhancement. Where a recording of the exhaust is played thru the stereo speakers when they're on the gas, making it incredibly loud...

My neighbor has one of these...:mad

If I get an electric bike, I wants one. I just want to get back to normal volume though, not insanely loud.

But if the exhaust is miced live, there won't be anything to mic on an electric.

Seems like the new electric Harley should come with one stock.:)

Here you are as an example of all the good things a patched club can represent. Same goes for OMC. This guy's patch is from a club whose Facebook page is cluttered with promotion for the Sac2Bay ride.

... it’s interesting to think about ...

... could always be a better ambassador ...

... always surprised at the lack of interest
in the SFMC on the part of local Moto peeps ...
think we only have 120 members on the books
with 20-30 showing up any given Thursday ...
guess our vests don’t serve us well re: new peeps ... :laughing

also always a little surprised at the amount of
new member posts on BARF ... there’s no
shortage of how to behave threads here ...
sort of suspect we’re preaching to the choir
on BARF ... :dunno

... do people talk about the risk our
behavior has on the future of motos
on Facebook ...?

love reading about the SBF’s big group
rides ...

IDK, guess what I’m thinking
is that laws/legislation is a form
of communication about behavior ...
know we want to avoid as much
of that as we can ... we’ll always be an
easy target for new laws at only 3% of registered vehicles ...

Honestly, BARF is by and large an echo chamber. Despite covering such a wide swatch of subsets, there's a fairly common mindset, I think. This isn't a dig, but there is a core group of main posters, and their responses are quite predictable. There's always a walk on that stirs up the hornet's nest of "don't do that sonny"! Hell, I'm doing it now.

I'm honestly a fan of the traditional club. My lack of belonging to one is nothing more than time related.

I also see a divide between the Cruiser crowd and the everything else crowd. Surj and I have talked about the David Mann paintings depicting the lone biker on a chopper, but the modern version of that is a crotchety old man in an Aerostich on a VStrom. We just want to be left alone and hoon with our close friends.

... yes, very interesting ...
get the time thing ... fun to
see how Moto guy’s time tends to shift
as we get older ... see that a lot in
the AMCA ... eg riding to restoration

... the racing clubs (LRRS and AFM) and ADV and
BARF have had as huge an impact
on my Moto experience as the traditional
AMA clubs ... loving BARF and ADV rallies and
the epic dual sport and vintage rides were
blessed with ...

grew up gazing at David Mann
art in “biker” mags ... :thumbup

we’ll see ... electric motos
will happen maybe and maybe leave
all the negative movie biker lifestyle stuff behind ...
before legislation ... maybe ha

... get back to topic,
perhaps what works best is
“attraction rather that promotion ...” :ride

Attraction towards who? I mean, really I think there isn't a lager percentage of asshole motorcyclists than there are assholes in general population. It'd be wonderful if somehow motorcyling had a more focused appeal towards non shitty people.

... was just thinking how I got
into road racing, dual sport,
vintage bikes and Baja ... my
friends were doing it so I got
an appropriate bike so I could go too ... :laughing

if my friends had been mufferless sideshow
stunters guess I’d have done that instead ...
eg my dual sport/Baja path was very much
influenced by the example others set in
ride reports on ADV ...

guess our point here would be
“don’t split with hazards yer
settin’ a bad eXaMpLe ...” :party

I took the family path myself. Started on dirt bikes, but my dad only rode Harleys. Many hours riding in fields alone. Went street riding but haven't ever embraced the Harley lifestyle. As I Branch out into dual sporting I do it alone frequently. More often than not, my riding is solo. I do enjoy the occasional 2-3 rider hoon.
