Windows 7 holdouts, check in here

I just got notified this morning that the Windows 7 that I'm running on my home machine is no longer supported by Microsoft. I refuse to upgrade to Windows 10. :x

Anybody else planning to stick with Windows 7?

My second, older machine is still running Vista. :twofinger

I'd still be on XP if third party software weren't so douchey about it. I have Windows 10 on a laptop and it's fine. You can do a few things to try and de-phone it.

My office runs a couple of machines on 7. My geek tells me that I shouldn't upgrade to 10 and instead buy a couple of new machines. I don't really want to spend the money or the time right now so very interested in this conversation.
Don't be afraid of W10. I have no problems with W10 at home or my work laptops.

I'm not afraid of it, I'll be annoyed by it. There are too many things that don't work the way I've been used to them working for the past 10 years. And my wife will have a hard time adjusting to the differences.

Got topic here.
I updated the work PC to windows 10 and it sucks
Ever since my PC now crashes once a week.
I hate the layout on the 10
I did bought myself a laptop from Dell during the back Friday for only $129 with a windows 10 but so far it's being sitting there because how much I disliked the 10... I need to start getting more familiar with it but it's not as friendly IMO.
I'm thinking on switching all together to Apple now

I don't have a problem with 10. Learn how to use it and it's fine. There's only a few things that are different. W10 is app based but you can configure it to look more like older versions.
I think the issue is updating an older computer to 10.

Linux is my answer for everyday computing. I run Win 10 in a virtual machine for the times that I need it, and you could do the same with 7.

People who are unwilling to learn the very minor differences between Windows 10 and Windows 7 are not going to adapt well to any flavor of Linux.

That has nothing to do with the OS itself. I oversee hundreds of PCs running Windows 10 and another several hundred running Linux. I do not see anymore frequent crashes from the Windows machines than the Linux machines. Troubleshoot your issue and fix it. Do you blame the bike every time you crash and sell it?

I recently updated my 6 year old laptop from Windows 7 to 10 to stay compatible with a current book keeping software. The upgrade was simple, performance seems the same, and I was relieved to find almost no learning curve needed.

I don't think his issue was with Windows 10 it was with upgrading to 10 from an older OS.

I work in a Windows shop so that is what I run. 10 isn't any worse or better. It is just annoying because they dumbed it down and some settings that were easy to get to are more difficult to find. I hate what they did with the networking stuff.

I run 7 on my 10 year old desktop and it will stay like that. I have 10 at work (Microsoft) and there aren't any issues. I don't see a reason to upgrade to 10 as long as your computer works. Eventually you will not find drivers in 10 for old HW, happened to my laptop.

Good point. I'm way better with the bikes than with the PC's.
I'll ask my IT team to take a look.
thanks again for the tip :thumbup

I'm sticking with 7 on my desktop and laptop. Once they really stop working, I'll probably switch to a chromebook laptop as I have an android phone and android GPS. Might buy another desktop with Windows on it, not sure ... but again, that will only be once they die a real death.

My 2 office computers are Dell Vostrom 3900
i5-4460
CPU 3.2GHz
RAM 4.0
64 bit
Will these upgrade to 10 without issues or is it time to buy new machines?

If they work and you don't need to upgrade you don't have to. I upgraded because I wanted to do some more stuff on my PC and needed more horsepower which necessitated the upgrade to 10.

My work keeps current just because we are a software company and they keep up with that stuff although a lot of our customers have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the brave new world of Windows 10. Hospitals are notorious for staying with old tech.

I'm still rolling with Win7, but I've been wondering how much I'm gimping my gaming performance by not upgrading.

I was talking with a friend who has a simlar setup to my own rig, and he's pushing nearly double the FPS that I am.

Thing is, Win7 works great for me, while win10 is mildly annoying, so I really don't want to upgrade if I can avoid it.

Is there an app to make windows 10 more like 7 or XP?

I have a Win10 computer but detest the user interface...

So I am still using my older Win7 Pro laptop

I just downgraded? to Win10 from 7 on a desktop. It went amazingly smooth. I did research locking down the privacy/tracking settings before the change.

"Come on in the water is fine"...from a hold out I hate change minded non geek. I'd probably be on 7 forever if was not forced to change due to security updates.

So far zero issues on my machine.
