I know not every country retires at 65, some later some earlier.

But I contemplate if companies will ask ppl to retire like within a few months after this dies down, the pandemic has shown that it affects the elderly and the best countermeasure is to stay home and away from others.

I bet premium rates will spike extra high on renewal for those in these high risk brackets :(

Will the world/gov/local business owners treat elderly workers differently?

KHAAAAAN!
Reminds me of this Star Trek: The Next Generation episode

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Half_a_Life_(episode)

The Resolution was a ritual of the Kaelons of Kaelon II when they reached the age of sixty. It consisted of a celebration of that person's life and accomplishments in the company of their family and friends. The person could say goodbye to their loved ones, while still in full possession of their faculties, before undergoing a ritual suicide.

The ritual was proposed between fifteen and twenty centuries before the 24th century in order to avoid societal problems the population faced with their elderly. They were sent to deathwatch facilities where they simply waited for death. Severe overcrowding and detrimental environments led to mistreatment. Furthermore, many families found it hard to visit them when they encountered mental problems. Rather than have families make the decision on an appropriate age for the ritual, an age of sixty was chosen for the ceremony, as a point in life when people could have full possession of their faculties and be able to say goodbye to their families. The ritual became a cornerstone of Kaelon life for the next 1,400 years, and it was taboo to consider not performing the ceremony.

As long as we're dipping into fantasy/SciFi, John Scalzi's "Old Man's War" had a novel concept:

Earth is in a long-running, bitter battle against an alien species for control of the solar system, and ultimately, earth. So they transferred the consciousness of the elderly into genetically engineered, youthful, physically prime new bodies. They gave them a week or to two enjoy their new bodies (including a tremendous amount of youthfully vigorous fucking), then basic training, then off to war.

Why the elderly? Because they were the only ones with a long enough memory of earth, and what earth was before the entire planet committed to war, to give a shit about saving it.

Yeah but then you find out that the Government had been keeping the earth in the dark, that Humans were actually the ones fomenting galactic conflict and the only reason they kept Earth in the dark as a set of fractured nation states was so that they had a readily available supply of recruits which wouldn't question the political realities of all the conflicts Humanity was in.

Pretty sure its an allegory for American Imperialism. :laughing

Warning: Do Not Engage
My dad retired at 70 and he's as busy as ever

I find people who can work longer tend to do it if its a field they like.

Don't worry, the next virus will target the young! :laughing

Song by a band many youngsters have never heard.

It's nature's way of telling you something's wrong
It's nature's way of telling you in a song

It's nature's way of receiving you
It's nature's way of retrieving you
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong

It's nature's way of telling you, soon we'll freeze
It's nature's way of telling you, dying trees

It's nature's way of receiving you
It's nature's way of retrieving you
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong
It's nature's way, it's nature's way
It's nature's way, it's nature's way

It's nature's way of telling you
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong
It's nature's way of telling you
It's nature's way of telling you
In a song, oh-h

It's nature's way of receiving you
It's nature's way
It's nature's way of retrieving you
It's nature's way
It's nature's way of telling you
Something's wrong, something's wrong, something's wrong

I'm scheduled to retire July 1. Our company just offered an early separation package. It includes some medical coverage and extended flight benefits. No money. I don't think I'll take it since I kind of need the 3 months of pay to keep the rent in my current apartment. My sick leave will pay my medical fully until I reach 65, and I already get flight benefits as a retiree, just at a lower seniority. I'm still hoping they offer some sort of buy out like they did at our last 2 contracts.

I expected 70 for me.

Adjusting may happen. Hopefully after this the world will be full of economic glory and we catch up.
