Will Jewell fix the DOI?

Since about 2007, I have followed very closely the actions of agencies under the DOI (BLM and USFS).

It has become crystal clear to myself and many others the DOI and it's agencies below them act without regard to public desire to manage the lands we have entrusted them to.

The bottom line is that leadership for this disregard comes from the Top. Salazar did a terrible job at mandating agencies to be 100% accountable for their actions. Like every other career Politician, he swept most "agency" problems under the rug. Even the DOI's Inspector stood down without pursing wrongdoings of agencies staff after repeated and hundreds of requests to investigate the collusion between BLM's HFO and the EPA district in striking scientific data that supported Clear Creek was no less a health hazard than walking in downtown Hollister itself. Rick Cooper requested in writing via email to the EPA to remove that fact, hence bolstering his position and personal agenda to shut down Clear Creek.

Now we have Obama looking to Sally Jewell, CEO of REI Stores to head the DOI. While it's commendable to place an outside of Washington businessperson to fix the ill's of the DOI, I highly question the motivation.

Here's the Washington Post story Obama nominates REI chief executive as secretary of the interior

Here's her Bio:

EDUCATION: Graduate of University of Washington, bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, 1978.

FAMILY: Husband, Warren; two grown children. Lives in Seattle.

CAREER: President and chief executive officer, Recreational Equipment Inc., 2005-present; chief operating officer, 2000-2005; president, commercial banking group, Washington Mutual, 1996-2000; president, WestOne Bank, 1992-1995; executive, Rainier Bank/Security Pacific, 1981-1992; engineer, Mobil Oil Corp., 1978-1981.

What you don't hear is what she supports. What is known is the Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune fully supports her. Under Sally Jewell's leadership, she has been a huge supporter of The Sierra Club. Why not? They promote outdoors and in turn give Jewell et. al. a bigger paycheck.

But is she right for OHV users? Well that's the big question. In my experience, not one SC member or supporter has ever been a fan of OHV use. They dont care if it's responsible use or not. The bottom line is that Greenies are Greenies and want all motorized access out of public lands.

If you care at all about the future of equatable access and sharing our public lands so we can still enjoy and ride outdoors, then you best start contacting her office for her opinion on this critical junction in our future.

If you were following closely, you would know that the USFS is not in the Dept. of the Interior. :)

Correct, USDA is the parent of the USFS, sorry I didn't add that.

What you may not know is that there is backroom discussion around merging disparate agencies. USFS/BLM being in that discussion.
