Wife wants to carry Mace shaped like a gun

Ok guys, my wife and I carry mace for people and dogs while we are out walking our dogs. For some reason my wife thinks this item below is easier to use and point at the perpetrator and wants to carry one of these on our walks instead. I'm trying to explain these are not legal in SF, since it is shaped like a gun. Can someone clarify better, or link the legal-ease so I can better explain to her why this would not be legal or a wise idea? Trust me, I don't want this, but she still wants to buy it for us to carry while we walk.

This is simple: Don't carry anything that looks like a gun that's not a gun.

Edit: that could also fall under the definition of california's imitation firearm laws, but I don't have it in front of me right now.

If she's trying to prevent an attack or robbery it's a really bad idea to carry something around that looks like a gun but isn't actually a gun.
All the potential for escalating conflict with relatively little actual defense/stopping power.
