why no Witcher or Mandalorian threads?

I started on Witcher. It lost me fast and I bailed.
My girlfriend digs it.
That doesn't happen very often with us.
She has a masters degree, I have a toolbox.
Do what you will with our demographic.

I'm genuinely shocked that a Witcher series got this far in production, and this show started the way it did. Don't get me wrong, in glad it exists, and I'm excited for the show so far, but it's a fantasy world that's way more confusing that anything GoT brought to the table, and it did fuck all to help people get going.

But if you don't have any prior visibility into it (I only played the third game in the Witcher series, and it's a goddamn delight) it's pretty great. It's got a bit more camp than game if thrones, and I think those comparisons are dumb. Henry Cavill is fantastic as Geralt, and I'm excited to see what the series does.

What I really love about the franchise is how it draws from Eastern European folklore for it's monsters and tells a ton of story there. I hope we get a lot of that.

Yup, the Witcher: acting is very good, good luck understanding WTF is going on if you haven't played any of the games.

Afaik you're better off if you read the books, the show is closer tied to them. Games take place after everything that happened in the books, but at least you understand witchers, the territories, and they general politics.

There's a new show?
I just recall that mess from the 60's with the corny robot and the ped chasing that poor boy around.

It is a dedicated Netflix program. It is decent Sci-Fi, much more serious and invested than the first show.

Totally love The Witcher. I never read the books or played the Video Games, but I think Cavill's Geralt may be my spirit animal. :laughing

The Witcher is good but the first three eps are a slog.

After that it picks up and is worth watching.

Good to know. I'd written it off halfway through the first.

I felt like the middle episodes of Mandalorlian were that way, but the last two were pretty good.

I was really enjoying the "monster of the week" format of the Mandalorian with a thin thread tying them all together. It's refreshing to see a show that doesn't need to carry an epic story arc forward with every episode. Reminded me a lot of the X-Files.

Remind me, why didn't they leave him somewhere?

The first 6 episodes of Witcher had me confused because they didn’t follow a linear timeline. And, the fact that nobody seemed to age at all didn’t help me distinguish between past and present. It wasn’t until the 7th episode that everything seemed to get tied together in my head. But, I’m now officially in.
