I'm blown away by the lack of professionalism and value from all the takeout offerings from the restaurants I love. The presentation is on par with "horrific" and while the food quality is decent, the entire experience feels as if I got ripped off; big time.

Why is no one offering an out of restaurant experience similar to the in restaurant experience with takeout? Seems takeout is here to stay so....

Because you can't serve it up on a preheated plate and have to rely on some bozo like me to bring it home in my car instead of a trained professional to serve it to you within a minute of it coming from the chef's hands?

But hey if you've solved the problem that no other restaurant can, entrepreneur the shit out of that shit.

In my experience take out quality is heavily dependent on the type of food you are ordering. Fried crispy things do not travel well as the steam they produce condenses on the take out packaging and turns things soggy. :(

Burritos on the other hand travel pretty well as long as they don't have lettuce.

What are your expectations?

I’ve started just eating the takeout food in my truck in the restaurant parking lot. I’ve found that it’s NEVER as good if I wait until I get home to eat it. Stuff just gets soggy even in the 10-15 minutes it takes for me to get home.

In these trying times there will be suffering, so I, for one, commend the OP for his stoic endurance of this hardship.

IMO, takeout is a different skillset than dine-in. Everyone on staff at a dine-in restaurant was trained for dine-in. And its not like a business has the time or $$ to hire or train people. So they are all learning on the fly and they suck at it.

Ive always ordered takeout from my Thai place and nothing has changed.

actually I'm enjoying one particular takeout where I used to go (in fact, maybe more). They put everything in little containers, apps, spicy things, spices, and it's so yummy.

Oh, I go to pick it up, never tried with an intermediary driver.

Whats is happening and what were you expecting?

I delivered food not that long ago so maybe I can answer questions.

Well, you figure the plating is going to suffer, because most of these restaurants are operating on a skeleton crew, no one is there inspecting what get slopped into take out tray to make sure it looks right. Then there is the matter of the take out container itself. These have not been very carefully screened for aesthetics, because most shops went kind of blind into this business model. They are figuring it out as they go along.

Delivery service has been trash since it stopped being single shop. DoorDash etc uses tech to keep as many orders piled into a driver as possible to maximize labor value. You will not get your food quickly.

We have been having "Thistle" delivered pretty regularly. We call it Weeds, cause it is lots of greens.

They are really good at sauces. It comes cold and many can be eaten cold, but we always take it apart and supplement it and hot it up a bit.

It as almost always very tasty.

it's all those goddamn low wage employees not doing a good enough job plating the food into a portable cardboard box, and the low wage drivers not getting the food delivered quickly enough after it's prepared.

fucking poors not even realizing they should be THANKFUL to be allowed to risk their health by going out and working in a global pandemic for 12 bucks an hour but probably no tips, cause why would you wanna do something like that
