Why guitar strap buttons, why not rifle sling posts?

On my most recent guitar build , I used an old (on-hand) set of rifle sling posts rather than the more typical buttons for a guitar strap

The sling swivels seem much more secure, a positive retention of the strap

guitar straps can have the occasional unexpected separation from the guitar's button, suprise!!! (drop)

any one else have unconventional solutions? discuss ...

I prefer strap locks myself. I've changed over every guitar I've got to them. Worthy investment.
