Picked up a smr450 with around 5k miles and am thinking of getting the rod, rings, and timing chain done for good measure.

Bike runs great no problems just wondering who is the husky man?

3,000$ O_O

I was thinking between 1500-1900....

Anyone a little more budget friendly?

Did you damage the valves? How many miles were on your bike?

ride it till it pops, part out whats left and then buy a new one

MotoXotica can.

Or, me and my boy do all our work. He's an AMA motocross mechanic. Best mechanic I've ever seen. He won't charge you much. Probably parts plus a little bit for his time. I can ask him if you're interested, just PM me.

I'll be doing all the same on my 610 this winter, minus the rod.

Scotty at O'hanlon's in SF has a 510 smr that he's built a few times (ride with him and you'll get a sense as to why - makes that italian/swede rip!). Great guy, loves his Husky and would be happy to work on yours. He's a regular participant at the Dirtbag.

Of course, Munroe's (SF) and I'm sure Bobby or Lawrence at Addiction Motors (Emeryville/Oakland) could hook you up. Dan at Motoxotica (Vacaville) is a great guy too and surely loves the Huskys. All kinds of people in these here parts will hook you up.

Dropped an exhaust valve! The bike was an anomaly, as it had a new top end done a few hundred miles prior.

After the rebuild, the bike ran awesome!

I see the consensus is kind of to ride it until there is trouble.

Glad to see there are so many local options!

Keep an eye out for a used 450 motor...

yeah, just ride it like you stole it and don't worry about it.

I've seen some go 15K on original crank.

Thanks for the help.

FYI; the falicon cranks are not only stronger on the small end but has better and more needle bearings on the big end.

Interesting....Also apparently balancing the crank can significantly help the rod hold together.
