My new to me local grocery store has a decent selection of spirits and pretty damn good prices too. I notice they had 1792 Twelve year for 35$ And i nabbed it. Sweet goodness.

Bros. I am in deep. Bots. Checking shit at grocery stores. Making wife take photos of store inventory for me. Asking managers.

Fucking LOVE the hunt.

I got some good barrel picks and small allocated bottles. Store prices only. No second market.

100%.

Finding some really good juice and learning a ton though. I got a bottle of pappy 12 off BevMo for $179! :cool

I’m such a loser. I just called it juice. :laughing

I am annoyed by that Proper #12 commercial and that octagon-cage fighter who keeps getting beat up guy.

It seems that there is some weird fascination with hearing anyone from the Brit Isles say the word "proper." I am not amused.

My favorite Irish somewhat affordable whisky thus far is Redbreast. Really took a price hike in last few years, tho.

I am convinced that all of us who love whisky should put a lot of effort into convincing others to stop drinking alcohol so we can get prices back down.

Yeah as soon as others find out something is good it gets ruined with popularity.

I used to love Japanese whisky, then it got popular. Now it's over priced to the max and Japan ran out of whiskey so the quality went down. Hibiki use to have an age date on it (8 year i think) now they are mixing with younger barrels so they took off the 8 and raised the prices cause idiots are still buying it.

Hopefully red breast keeps it's twelve.

Sacreligious on a whisky thread, but I just went over to cocktails for the most part. Just too pricey for my relative income. I get a nice bottle and watching the level fall just hurts. It's like I'm saving it for good. Well when is good anyway?

Scotch whisky once was affordable. That;s when I consumed it the most. I'd go to Albany BevMo in the 80s and maybe even 90s, and there was a rotating set of on-sale labels that went for $19.99 Sometimes Oban, Auchentoshan, good ol Laphroiag, MacCallan etc. Then, seemingly overnight, single-malt became a thing and ended that happy time for me. $42.99 seems to be the old $19.99. Ouch. Costco had deals for a bit but they eventually went up too. Even when the dollar got much stronger, those prices did not fall, which I'd hoped. Well, maybe some but not enough.

Recedite, plebes!
Well, since Saturday this week things have been a F-ing Shitfest, hopefully by this time next week things will be on the upswing!
So, this evening when I got home pulled this out from the back of the cabinet and cracked this bottle of "The Glenlivet 18" open. Got it back in 2015 and there is NO sign of evaporation! It is absolutely wonderful.

Picked up some Bulleit Bourbon today and was impressed with its smoothness. It's 28% Rye. Made a very nice Old Fashioned.

I think both their rye and bourbon are fine for us. Great for sours and other cocktails. I have heard people talk it down but I don't agree. I love that its discounted at Coscto. Which by the way, ANYBODY can go to Costco and buy booze, you don't need a membership. Weird thing about state licensing.

It’s amazing to me that the whole no membership to buy booze at Costco thing hasn’t gotten way more widespread attention.

I'm guessing if they're bottled from the same source they taste the same. It's not like whiskey continues to age in a sealed glass bottle.

That sounds like a hard project. I'm not sure erecting the infrastructure to do that would result in the stamina needed to hit the target.

Ha!

I dunno if you remember, but about five or six years ago, one of those sketchy male enhancement OTC pills were found to actually be spiked with the real thing. Helped sales...that's what made me think of it.

Back to whisky: I was given a Jack Daniels sampler for xmas. It's sacriligeious as hell, but I had never had the Honey Jack. Ms BA loves it so much, I think were on the third bottle.

SO, me being me, I'm gonna brew up some honey liquer and experiement with various whiskies to see if I can achieve Nirvana in another way.

The thing about the stuff is that the honey cools the esophageal burn on the way down, better than water. It might be a girl drink but it aint bad.
