Wheel bearing options?

I need wheel bearings for a Carrozzari front wheel. Apparently there are internet threads saying the bearings on Carrozzari wheels are known to be cheap Chinese ones with nasty failure modes. These have about 2-3k track miles on them.

I see Allballs on the web as a source. But I wonder if I order the same PN as on the old bearings will I get another low quality set?

Do the PN's on the bearings transcend the actual manufacturer?
What other sources are there?
Are there real differences between options?
I thought I saw a reference to a local source but cannot find it.

Ordering stock is not an option given that these are aftermarket wheels.

Thanks for your help!

For what it is worth;

All Balls are questionable at best, I would avoid them. Some that are offered as that brand are knock-off cheap stuff.

Do the PN's on the bearings transcend the actual manufacturer? To some degree depending on what you have in hand.

What other sources are there? Check the yellow pages, there are several bearing supply houses locally.

Are there real differences between options? Very much so. When you get the the bearing supply house explain the application and hand the man the existing bearing. He'll do the rest and answer questions about why he suggest what he offers.

I thought I saw a reference to a local source but cannot find it. Yellow pages.

Ordering stock is not an option given that these are aftermarket wheels.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the response! Glad you mentioned allballs not being so great. Ther were no mentions in my yellow pages - it was the first time I used them in years....

On line yellow pages showed 2 sources but one does not even have a distributor closer than Oakland.

There is very little chance the bearings are proprietary.

Look at one of the existing bearings for numbers on the race, or possibly the dust shield. Type it into Google and see what comes up.

All balls are Chinese bearings also, I have heard...

Bearing engineering has several locations
Motion industries is another source

If you get comfortable with bearing details and ordering your own, mcmaster-Carr might have what you need. They never specify a supplier in their catalog, but I have never had cut rate hardware delivered by them. I'd expect to receive skf, timken, koyo or similar

Get part number off old bearing, go on ebay search for bearing part # and FAG, skf, timken, etc. Make sure to specify 2rs or whatever so it has seals.

There is a bearing shop in ssf near dudley perkins but I just ebay most stuff.

I have some All Balls in my rear wheel and beat the shit out of them. They are holding up nicely.

Thanks for all the responses. FWIW I had already called Core Moto and they said they couldn't be sure which ones were in my wheel even though I bought it two years ago (to replace one that cracked and leaked where the spokes attach.) They said to remove the old ones and look at the PN.

Youtube examples show people heating the hub of the wheel to get them out. Core Moto confirmed my fear that heat would ruin the coatings. Since I was going to Advanced Welding in Mtn. View to have an exhaust part repaired, I figured they would know how to get them out without a lot of pounding and risk of damaging the wheel. In the end they pulled out the actual ball bearings and removed the center parts then pounded out the outer races.

To get new bearings, I tried Applied Industrial Technologies and the lady who answered was nice but didn't recognize the number or even the number patterns and took several minutes of looking up the wrong parts before asking to call back. I could tell that she really could not answer any questions about different options and her warehouse was in Penn, so it would be a week for shipping without extra costs.
I tried other locations in the SJ area, but they looked up parts that were >$300 each or couldn't find the part I needed. It really took a couple of hours just to find these. Much more than I figured it should.

I ordered Koyo bearings (thanks for the mention above) from Midpoint Bearing via a web search and they ship from LA. They were about $32 ea.

Thanks for all the responses - I hope this info helps the next person.

In the future if you need to pull a bearing go to vatozone and borrow blind bearing puller thing with slide hammer works good. Or you can drift them out with hammer and drift. Good luck with it.

Thanks, but with a handful of forum posts about low quality bearings on Carrozzari wheels locking up an d causing crashes, I figured I would go with another brand.
