What's "Vintage" mean?

I voted for 1985 as the cutoff. Too many bikes that I just want in the category, like an rz350. Is it vintage or just classic, IDK but thats my vote.

I say RZ 350 is a classic, but not "vintage". RD 400/350 vintage.
There's def some gray-area tho 1980-85 I think...
Like this one... classic? Sure. Vintage? Mmm... no. :dunno

I agree with the pre-1980 camp. Actually 1978 brought many common changes that made motorcycles much more advanced than in prior years. Not to mention styling and design changes took a new direction about that time.

I voted older than 1985. I can't get behind the idea that a CBR Hurricane will be vintage in 3 years or an F2 be vintage in 7 years.

"Vintage Cafe" (as the forum is currently titled) to me is spoke wheels, drum brakes or very rudimentary discs, limited bodywork, etc...

Of course. My comment was made in argument against the "rolling" age definition.

I always thought the word "vintage" was being misused, but in context the rolling year cutoff makes more sense. I'm more inclined to think of the period from post-ww2 to 2000 as being a golden age of the analog motorcycle and petroleum.

Course, I might just being saying rolling years because I have a couple 1986 bikes that are aircooled and kickstart only. :thumbup
