What's the deal with track intel?

2 rounds in a row it's been unreliable and the data has been wrong for me since I added a new bike. They somehow managed to mix the 2. Seriously not impressed with their product.

Hey Paul, did you try sorting this out with Lisa? Probably an easy fix and she knows this stuff like the back of her hand.

If you want my help with it come find me in the morning, I'll be somewhere around the Z2 compound.

I'll try Lisa. I just hate to bug her since she's always slammed and there's always something with that web app.

Nah, it's all good. That's what she's there for. If it's something that Allie or Kinsie handle she'll delegate as needed.

Hope everything got taken care of.

I'm just winging it here from my experience, but I wonder if this isn't another manifestation of some of the network issues at Thill. My guess is that TrackIntel operates as a somewhat independent environment on race weekend so that if it loses internet connection, it still hums along and all machines plugged into a 'server' on site get the real information (i.e. Timing/Scoring, Regitration). Everyone in the paddock would be getting updates from the web and if you can't reach back down form the web to the on site little 'LAN' that the AFM brings in each race weekend, then you get nothing.

Again, I'm just theorizing. From what I've seen, the system is very stable and does a lot. It may be the live sync that is challenged due to a less than stable link to the internet. I base this on the fact that on the forth floor, I can't plug right into the LAN.

That would not surprise me at all. T-hill has some issues in multiple ways. Speaking as a technologist, it bugs the shit out of me that in this day and age a venue has this many technological issues. Even more so when there are experts in the field that are willing to lrovide their knowledge and expertise to correct them. :laughing

Plus it's hot there. Yeah, not a t-hill fan. :rofl Sonoma has spoiled.me over the years, I guess. So close to home that's always the track I went to.

Again, I was just guessing.

On the flip side, THill does invest a lot of time and money into things that makes it the most accommodating venue for us. Shade structures, lots and lots of free power, generous noise restrictions, a flat paddock, etc.

Nah, I got you. :) I could hear you wrestling with some of these things too.

Sure, they are accomodating for clubs and trackday goers. Not arguing that at all. :thumbup But a broken radio (minor, but a problem if you have to pit too far from a speaker), hoooot!, bad cellular coverage for all but verizon and pretty much no wifi connectivity to help with that. Plus it being in the middle of nowhere with limited spectator locations. Just not my fav place to be sitting on top of a heater tucked into a ball in leather. :laughing

To be fair, now I'm mostly just bitching because I hate triple digit heat (heat exhaustion in my past and that just makes me grumpy :laughing). But it would be nice that if instead of spending however much $ on more track that I hear mixed reviews of, they'd spend a little on the current failing or failed infrastructure. But that's just my :2cents

Where is the most effective place to send bug reports for Track Intel? Even with good connectivity I've found the web app very buggy on iOS devices.

Now w/ 33% more "stripe"!
Web app did not have access to grids/results/etc all weekend. It was great previously, when I could see practice time results on my mobile device just after the completion of the session. I experienced the same issue last round, though I did not report it then.

I did report it this time to Kinsy.

If the issue is internet connectivity, can the AFM shell out for a wireless solution that will give timing and scoring reliable internet access at each of the 3 tracks we race? Or can a club member bring something that timing and scoring can use for the weekend?

Not sure who "owns" this particular issue -- can someone here channel it to the right peeps?

That said, big thanks to Lisa and the crew. They worked through a number of issues and kept things up and running this weekend. I really appreciate the effort, gang!

Thanks!
Steve

Lisa is probably the best route to go and if she can't resolve the issue then she can take it to someone that can. If she's not around then Greg Olson is probably your next best bet as he's sort of become our board level expert on T&S.

FYI, I'm totally willing to offer help on technical issues. It's been a number of years since I've done desktop type support as I've since moved into larger server farms but I worked with several schools in the north bay back in the mid 2000s to provide plug-n-play classroom type carts that we may be able to replicate here that will help minimize issues and setup. :thumbup

Just a thought, anyway.
