Whats more important: The Calipers or the Tires?

Which is most important and has the most effect on stopping distances

The quality of the tire, or the quality of the brake calipers?

Tires by a billion. I seriously doubt there's a modern bike out there you cant indo or lock the rear.

I could just about lock the tires on my old enfield when it still had drums front and rear. The tires matter more.

Brakes are worthless without traction integrity. Put the best tires you can afford on the bike, then make sure your brakes are in tip-top working order. Don't ride without both.

physics questions, eh? Rather, engineering and dynamic coefficients of friction. Then again, there is the concept of the weakest link.

If you increase your braking power without improving the tire, the wheel will lock and increase your stopping distance. If you increase the traction of tire, you can apply more pressure to the brake and decrease stopping distance.

I believe the front brakes on most modern bikes can over power the tires.

Here's a thought... as a responsible motorcycle owner... keep good tires with good tread and proper psi on your bike, and keep your calipers clean and in good working order, and your brake pads replaced when needed.
Just a thought! ;)

Lol... yes. You win one internetz!

Speaking of which, I need to flush the brake fluid and do the brakes on Timmay before next AFM round.
Wanna come out to Stockton next month and help me? :teeth
I'll BBQ dinner... or maybe whip up lasagna!

I disagree. Tire technology is so good, even touring tires are amazing these days. I think the brakes are more important, but by that I include the master cylinder. A top shelf braking system, including a good radial MC, will offer you improved feel that will benefit your braking more than super sticky tires. Again, I'm assuming that you're still on decent tires, no shagged garbage.

I know that this is only about brakes and tires, but suspension plays a significant role in braking; particularly on crappy surfaces.
