so inbetween the indy gp & the new jersey ama race myself & 3 other team members will be driving a van from indy to jersey. we were planning on hanging out in philly for a couple days, but once we noticed that new york city was only 120 miles from the track that all changed & we decided to forget philly & head straight to the apple. so now i'm looking for suggestions on what to do/see while we're there & places to stay & any info on transport, etc... i can get my hands on. 2 of the guys are sports nuts so any sporting event would be good. all of us are food/drink & music lovers. :staRang

4040 club for the sports guys. It's upscale but chock full o' win! :thumbup

Stay in Hoeboken, New Jersey (Manhattan's f00king expensive) if you can and just take the Holland Tunnel in to play in the city.

was thinking a hostel might be the way to go on a place to stay. we won't be in the room very much. we've only got 3 days so we're pretty much going to go 24/7

great decision!
I would check out what's happening at Madison Square Garden for sporting/music events or even the Nassau Coliseum. Maybe you'll get to see some local teams play or catch a good concert. The Jones Beach Theater also might still have the summer concert series happening.

I'd also consider checking out the local music scene in the city, maybe catch a good club show or some jazz.

Whatever you end up doing I am certain you'll enjoy the fuck outta your visit and enjoy the food!!! Go to a real Jewish deli! Go to Little Italy!

I have a few friends who live in the BIG APPLE/Manhattan. I can hook you up if you want!
Hail a cab to the Ginger Man:

East 36 near Lex. :party

If I remember correctly, across the street, there's a sweet jazz club (it's underground). I forgot the name though. The cover is a bit pricey (like $30-35), but worth it.
It's another bar, so drink up!
(Or head to the Remy Lounge on Greenwich for real jazz).

OR Spuyten Duyvil in Brooklyn is pretty cool too:

Dude.. walk from Times Square, to Battery Park. Then head over to where the Twin Towers stood. From there, you can taxi back to Time Square. Definitely recommend Keens for a great steak and ambiance.

A few years ago my wife stayed at Bowery's Whitehouse for her sister's graduation from NYU and it was fine. They have a cat, so if you're allergic it may not be the best place.

You'll find plenty to do! Not sure I'd call it a zeitgeist but MizCoop showed me the Tuesday Bike Night at the Ear Inn, in Greenwich Village. Quite a mix of both people and bikes, it was pretty cool. You could get hold of her and Frankie for any ideas on where to stay. :thumbup

sweat balls this time of year...I went last August for the first time, hit Boston and Jersey too. Boston was insane!! Nice place to live aside from the snow.

Little Italy isn't what it used to be. It's surrounded by China/Korea town, and is now only one or two streets. Famous Rays for pizza. :laughing

I would head immediately to Club Macanudo for a cigar, served to you by hotties in little black dresses. Make sure they show you around the walk-in humidor. The Club's located next to the Park Plaza Hotel, across the street from the southern border of Central Park. It's got a Ferrari stuck halfway through the wall, hard to miss.

I would also have steak/seafood at Smith & Wollensky if you have the budget for it. Best t-bone evarr.
