What the hell is wrong with you people. (Technology and motorcycles/cars)

I mean seriously.

What happened to actually DRIVING or RIDING. Taming the beast!

I see people riding these bikes with ABS, Pussy...oops I mean traction control....When is there going to be stability management? Hill assist? $H^T your 30,000$ bmw 1millionrr has all that doesn't it? Probably has Noob...I mean lean indicators too huh?

When does the pinnacle of technology start separating us from them.

I mean if motorcycling appears safe with all the electronic safety this and that...Then all those prius drivers will be jumping on the bandwagon! :|

I see it already, prius drivers on can-am tripod things.

The husky has electric start...I don't like it. Takes some of my ballhair away. I like to kick the beast over a few times as it snorts and fights back, only to start with a lovely sound indicative of speed, power, and fun.

Why oh why was I born post 2-smoke glory and helmet laws. (I would probably still wear a helmet but missing the point)

Instead you start up your superplush multistrada (which sounds like a bitch bike btw.) and go putt your way down the wet street all stable and safe with no fear of ever hitting the brakes to hard or sliding the rear around a corner. Nope that there computer will put the pussy into your right hand for you. :laughing

I hate picking up parts in my jeep. The experience is not engaging at all. You turn the wheel a bit, hit the brakes and gas; basically drives itself. I can listen to the radio and eat my cheetos all I want. Oh yay. :rolleyes

SCREW THAT. :thumbdown

I want to shift gears, slide around corners with too much power on 1970's suspension with loud creaking noises and the roar of a v8. Hit speeds so high the braking ability of the car is questionable :laughing Man, cant wait for my 5 speed swap to be done. Killing me. :cool

All I am asking here is; Why bother? The fear of operator error is what creates the thrill of motorcycling; and the drive to improve the skill level. If you start out on a bike with traction control, abs, and god knows what else comes on these things, are you a rider anymore? Or are you just the thing that makes the bike turn?

What comes next in the way of motorcycle electronics. Hell, I think if you lean too much it will start taking the throttle away. Is this stability management?

/rant :x

thats one reason I love my 05 zx-10 its a big hairy chested beast of a motorcycle.

Now for your question, I think we have gotten to a point where they are close to pushing a bike as far as it can go so they are focusing on the technological aspects traction control abs ect as its cheaper and easier then trying to find more power out of the same 1000CC. Just my .02

Question for other BMW owners: do you notice the onboard microwave takes longer to heat food up when over 3000 feet above sea level?

Hell one of the most fun cars to drive is the 74 pinto...

4 speed and 4 wheel drum. In the rain if you nail the brakes you are not always sure which way it will slide!

Sharpens my skills...

When I bought my last or present truck, I wanted windows that I manually roll up and no a/c. Response from dealer,"They all come that way now."

You just have me a great idea for a driving school/experience type thing. Even Skip Barber school uses modern cars with all those options. I think someone needs to have a school that reenacts the chase scenes from Bullitt and lets you romp 60s and 70s muscle cars to your heart's content.

Sounds like you're ready for a horse & buggy. :p

Right. Science is progress. Things that work will be steadily improved. Things that don't go by the wayside.

We'd be posting about these things if no one ever tried anything new:

Q: Why are so many squids on new supersports?

A: It takes 0 skill to mount one, start it up, and ride away.

Love this idea. Screw miata's lets roll in slammed pinto's with exhaust and dual webers, with stock brakes! Hell yea! Cable clutches and 4 speeds :thumbup

Steee-riiike!
this thread reminds me of my old '72 el camino. when I pushed it hard enough in a turn (which really wasn't a lot), the back end was so light the tires would actually start bouncing instead of sliding! made one hell of an awful noise. ahhh, good times.

Could start a Mr.P's Turd Racing school.

miatas might be the way to go really, cheap, pretty basic, bountiful spares... v8 swap has been sorted

smog checks are the biggest problem i see. saw a mashed up but complete one in the CL parts section for $500 a couple days ago.

muscle cars are fun and all but cost of entry is huge for anything remotely fitting the "muscle car" definition.
