Canon SD1000.

We had the SD400 until some asshole baggage-handler managed to break it, and the suitcase it was in.

So we upgraded. Had it for 3 years. Endured camping trips, trips to the beach, shoved in tank-bags, pockets with sand in. Still works flawlessly.

Is tiny, takes full-frame video, battery life is excellent (outstanding if you turn off the LCD - enough to last a 7-day thru hike and take ~20 mins of vid and take ~400 pics).

In general, the Canon P&S cameras are much better at reproducing colors than the Sony cameras in a similar price range.

What the shit is this...
As badly as it pains me to say this....

(Get a Canon. Nikon P&S cameras suck)

Okay, that wasn't easy, but there it is. I'm actually considering getting a G9/G10 as a pocket size backup/supplement for my big cameras.

i got a cannon A2000 IS a few months ago, been quite happy with it. uses AA batteries which i thought was weird at first, but i like now. no viewfinder, again weird at first but i rarely used it on my previous cannon so no biggie.

the cyclic rate isn't any better than the 5 year old camera it replaced, but i haven't read through all the instructions maybe i'm not doing something quite right.

You can get a good little Canon for under $150. My A 470 cost $110 and is a really good point and shoot, records video, and dead easy idiot proof with long battery life.
