What NEW Band Have You Discovered?

With the death of FM Radio DJs, and same crap spun over and over on XM I've found it pretty hard to find new bands with amazing original material. Thought I'd share one I found lately and see what you guys might have discovered lately.

I was in New Orleans a week ago with my son's high school band. My wife and I flew in a few days early to explore on our own. We stumbled onto Frenchman Street on the east side of the French Quarter to find some really cool clubs: The Spotted Cat, The Blue Nile, and 30/90. 30/90 had a baritone sax blaring, so we wondered in to find this bitchin funk band. We stayed hours while they belted out tune after tune with no breaks. The band is called In Business. These guys are young, high energy and so fun to watch live. They've got one CD out now with another new album being released early May. I pre ordered the new one, Space Story, on vinyl. I was able to score the old one, Cop Show, on Amazon, but I think it's on itunes and others.

So the other day I had "Ya Mamma Got Me Thinkin'" blastin on the stereo downstairs, turn around and my son is standing there holding up his phone with a buddy on the other end of the line listening in. The song ends and he says "Dad, play that again." He usually hates Dad's music. That was cool moment. Play it LOUD! Before you do... What have you discovered??

I hear a lot of good stuff on Alt Nation that I'm not familiar with. Its usually what I listen to on weekends when driving.

This stuff isn’t new but was new to me:

Animals as Leaders
Benny Greb
Porcupine Tree

I found these in various ways; Animals as Leaders suggested by Google Play based on other stuff I like, the others suggested by YouTube based on drum videos.

Carpenter Brut. Called 'dark synth', whatever that means, and reminds me of some evil sounding 80s electronic music with a sort of 8-bit synth vibe thing going on.

Try out the album Trilogy - it has a few absolutely killer tracks which I think would work well in moto videos. (I miss your stuff, Joe/Com3!)

My newest and one of my new favorites is a Finnish Power Metal Band called Battle Beast. Keyboards and a female vocalist seem to inspire an Iron Maiden meets Dream Theater meets Abba sound that I really seem to enjoy. They have been around with their current incarnation since 2013, but that is pretty new compared to most of my music, LOL. I'm old. :laughing

Carpenter Brut is some really good stuff. If you like them, give the Glitch Mob a spin as well.

With 6 albums recorded since 2002, they're not quite new. But if you're not listening to Murder by Death, you're fucking up. They've never put out a bad album, and each one is better than the last.

A friend introduced me to the Afghan Whigs last year - somehow I'd missed them during my youth. One of my favorite songs off of what was probably their best album. Dark stuff.
