What did you do to your dirty bike today?

Wow awesome! I love my 450. How many hours on yours before the rebuild? I just spent the day messing with the stator doing the dc conversion. Next up led headlight. Waiting for the epoxy to dry on the stator before I find out if I did it correctly. :laughing

You got the upgraded RR to go with the dc conversion, right?
Surprised there are RFS out there that haven't had the dc mod done yet, so easy and a must have to run a good headlight and fan.

Wow that is awesome that you gave it some love.

Yes I got the trailtech 7004-rr150. Just fired up the bike and with heated grips on full blast and stock headlight on high I had 12.35v across the battery at idle. Next up squadron sport headlight and led tail light.

So, a part of this saga I haven't shared yet...

Between dropping my parts off at Thumper racing ( love them) for machine work, and getting the estimate for ALL the parts and work it needed :)shocker) i found a 350exc here in town in mint shape for what turned out to be roughly 2x what the parts and labor was going to be to rebuild my 12 year old rfs engine.

So what does a smart person do? Why not both? :teeth

So the plan is to take them both out to ride back to back, and decide who to keep. I did the same thing with my yz250 when I got the ktm in 08, and the yz was for sale the next day.
I fear this will be a much harder decision with a stupid emotional connection to the old bike.

That is going to be tough. I have a 525 and have ridden the 450 RFS as well. The 450 is smoother and easier to ride in the tight stuff -less engine braking and pulling on the bars under light acceleration. My partner has a FE350S. It is a great bike. Easy to manage down low, and loves to rev to the moon. I can't wait to see what you decide to do.

Well, the cards are stacked in the RFS' favor as I know that bike is dialed jetting, suspension and ergonomic wise. The engine will be better than it's ever been for me, so that is exciting.

The 350 still needs a JD tuner or Vortex ECU, I fear, but I have the gearing fixed, suspension and ergonomics are close and I have ridden 350s and new 250s, so i know what to expect with leas bottom end, gotta ride it like a 2 stroke.

Also, the RFS has dialed 2019 Xplor forks, and the 350 has stock 4cs So again, the rfs wins, but i will try to compartmentalize the front end and keep it out of the judging and just put the better forks on whoever stays.

Also, i am deep in winter up here, so it may not be until spring that I do this. Hard to get away from the snow to riding country.

Duuuuuude, well done! I love my buddy's 350exc, think it's a 2014 or thereabouts. So nimble and though he is pretty soft on the throttle, the difference in fuel economy from my carb'ed fo-fiddy is ridiculous.

I've got less than 2 hours to go until a new top end. I'm thinking of removing the engine just to get it clean. Is that stupid?

Also getting new chain and sprockets and both tires with the top end rebuild.

I put a new FMF PowerCore 4 on my XR650L. Had to lose the rear rack AND cut the fender a bit to get it to fit. Can't start the bike until tomorrow to find out what it sounds like - gotta wait until the Hi-Temp Silicone cures.

The old pipe that's been on there for more than ten years, a White Bros, was falling apart.

That's going to be stupid loud. IMO only their Q (Q4) series should be used for trail riding. Even it is too loud for street.

I doubt it could be louder than the one it's replacing.

Now that I'm looking at my notes, I had written down that I needed a Q4, not the PowerCore 4. Oops! If it's too loud, I'll get a quiet insert for it.
