Just in case anyone can volunteer.

To ensure that we are able to execute the World Superbike event in accordance with the FIM requirements, we are still looking for volunteers to work with USARM as part of the course marshal team

The following are still need;

Friday; Flag Marshals 23 and Handlers 59 (to assist moving bikes that go down) = 82 total

Saturday and Sunday; Flag marshals 17 and Handlers 53 = 70 total.

Where is transportation provided from/to? In Monterey? From the parking lot? To your assigned location?

Can some one PM me and let me know how to sign up? I'm not sure, but would love to volunteer to help out!

In the past, the USARM workers camped in the Archery Camp. And transportation was provided from that camp to the track and back. You are also transported out/in to your post.

My son and I signed up a while back for this. We are headed down this afternoon and are working all three days. Should be fun!

While part of me thinks this is awesome, another part of me thinks it's nucking futs that a top tier professional race will be using volunteers to flag the race and/or go onto a hot track runoff area to pick up bikes. Seems crazy for both the racers and the volunteers. Could you imagine if a racer got hurt or killed due to a mistake by some poor volunteer who was pounding on a computer at work on Friday and then flagging World Superbike on Saturday? Or a volunteer getting killed picking up a bike? Just seems strange to me that they wouldn't have a full professional team to perform those critical functions.

I've been asked to volunteer course Marshall at a pro golf tournament and my answer was 'no fucking way'. Why risk winding up on ESPN for fucking something up I'm really not qualified for and not getting paid for. No. Thanks.

My son and I had a blast being recovery workers over the three days. We actually ended up camping right next to fellow Barfer myblunt, super nice guy. Met lots of other really cool people, saw the races up close and got to recover Bautista’s bike! It felt like picking up an XR250, very light. Only complaint was they we were not informed of what we were expected to supply on our own. It was a common issue for all of the first timers. So, if you are planning on doing this next year, bring the following. White pants and shirt, decent work gloves (hot bikes and pokey parts) and a whistle with a breakaway lanyard. We made a quick trip to town Thursday evening after setting up camp and picked up what we needed. Lunches were good, there was a free taco truck one night and plenty of drinks to stay hydrated. They were still so short staffed that they were bringing in ROTC kids to help out with flagging! It went pretty smoothly considering all of us noobs in the mix. I plan on doing it again next year!

Not as fast as I look.

So, your expertise extends to refusing to Marshall a golf tournament because it is too dangerous, or what? :wtf

These events have been run with volunteers for-ev-ar! There isn't a professional track marshal school. MotoGP uses volunteer help, too. There are regular corner workers who do track days at Laguna and Sears and Thunderhill and Buttonwillow. It's still just a low-pay part time job for those people.

Overall, I had a blast meeting everyone. Gotta keep that turn clean! ditto on not getting the memo about bringing your own white pants, but a quick trip to Work World solved most my problems.

It's one of the best seats in the house!
