Vintage vid thread

Fabrizio Meoni and the mighty KTM LC8 950R won 2002 Dakar ...
100hp, 454 lbs dry, over 500 lbs fully filled with fuel ...
Mr. Meoni is racer #1, having also won in 2001, the vid has a few glimpses of him ...

That guy working the tread on his front tire, in the '71 SJ Mile vid, is my buddy and local legend, Allen Kenyon. Woo hoo!

Loved San Jose. One year, got to watch the race from inside turn 1; it's all who you know :thumbup Just a photographer, a medic, couple of Hells Angels (don't know what the story there was), and Allen and me. No liability bullshit back then. Got some epic pics... Springer was THIS close!

Never went to Anaheim for Supercross, but went to Oakland in '79. Most memorable for Hannah flying off jumps with his feet off the pegs, running like the throttle was stuck WFO. Crazy good.

On Any Sunday is timeless. Got to sit with Bruce Brown, Mert, and a few others in a box at Calistoga a few years back. Bruce and Mert were both personable, and Mert's a genius at fabrication. On a somewhat related note, a high school buddy of mine, who filmed for Speed, ESPN, and others for years, filmed some interviews a few years back for AMA Hall of Fame intros. One of them was Bruce. After the interview, Bruce asks him if he wants to see something... all the original film from the movie shoot!

Awesome was Penton!!!

So glad he stepped up to build a bike so the USA could compete in the ISDE. :flag

This is vintage in the first 1/2 but interesting for the full ride.

Interesting the Stan Hailwood.. Mike the Bike's Dad bought 2,000 Ducati's to get his son on one for racing.
Since he had so many he became England's first Ducati Dealer.

Can't remember if I've posted the attached previously.

I had the opportunity to hang with Joe a number of times in the last 15 years of his life. He had a stroke a couple of years before he passed, and was in a home, but prior to that, he was still a force, and he could still drive... had a Ford Probe - don't even think it was a GT - that you'd be hard-pressed to hang with in the twisties, with Joe piloting.

I asked him about the attached pic, which was taken at Belmont. Note that he's holding onto both fork legs, not just the left. Asked him how he could do that; you need one hand on the throttle, right? He said,

"They couldn't see us on the back straight, so we could tuck in extra-tight like that. And we sprung the throttle in reverse, so when you let off, it went wide-open." :wow:wow:wow

Balls of steel. And a great storyteller. I am fortunate to have known him.
