Vietnam 2021 Anyone

Hello, my name is Donovan,
I'm planning another trip to ride through Vietnam in 2021 and wanted to lead / guide a small group, and was seeing if there's any intrest of people who wanted to go. My trip this last December / January could not have been any more fun. It was the best trip I've ever taken. There was stuff I learned that I would change and some things I would do again. Vietnam was very very safe (not what I expected) and the Vietnamese people were very kind!
The trip would be about 16 days (2 weeks counting 3 weekends)
Over 1000 miles from Hanoi to Saigon (Ho chi Minh city)
Awesome scenery
Great food along the way
Museums / lots of Vietnam war museums including pow camps and the tunnels
Beautiful beaches
I would take care of booking all the rooms
Lining up bike rentals
Planning the route
Possible of having a follow vehicle for a group.

If you are interested p.m. me and I can call or text you, share photos and route info. Thanks

Please no negative comment for any reasons, just seeing if theres intrest

Thoroughly enjoyed Vietnam last March! We rode southern Vietnam and I stayed in Ho Chi Min City for several extra days. Great coffee, good food and warm friendly people. Good exchange rate too.

Agreed, It was pleasantly suprising, believe it or not I thought the further north you went, the less touristy it was, the people were nicer. You would think it would be the other way around.

Looks incredible, I've been dreaming of touring Vietnam by motorcycle since the Top Gear Vietnam Special years back haha. Do you have a ballpark estimate of the price? I don't think I'll be able to take that length of time off from work in 2021, but I'm still interested in hearing some more details.

I hope you get a great group together and have another great trip!

You can do it as cheap or as expensive as you'd like. I bought my bike from a shop that specialized in ripping off backpackers. I think I paid $400, ended up replacing front & rear tires/tubes for another ~$150/total. Did a couple of oil changes and gas for ~$100/total. Sold the bike for ~$300. This was done on the classic faux-Honda Win. So call that ~$250/total to get from Hanoi to Mui Ne (just outside Ho Chi Minh City) for transportation.

As far as accommodations, backpacker hostels are ~$10-20/night. Nicer hotels are around $20 up to $100. I think we even stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Hanoi for $150. Pulling up to a 5-star hotel on a backpacker motorcycle definitely caught the attention of the staff, lol. Food is incredibly cheap, $5/meal.

All in all, you can make the trip extremely cheap. Flights were the most expensive part of it. I'd highly recommend doing it. Just stay safe, the roads are INCREDIBLY dangerous outside the cities. Buses/vans don't follow the lines and will regularly overtake on blind corners. Driving in the cities isn't too bad, just stick with your school of fish and you'll be fine.

Every thing was cheap, I got a executive sweet at the red hotel (the nicest hotel in Vietnam) on my last night for $100 and in the central highlands I think I got rooms for under $10.

Well.... as long as you stick to main tourist areas. Out in countryside, there's still VC holed up thinking The War is still going. Or they're just highway robbers now. Be sure to travel in groups of at least 3 or more. And carry some guns.

Exchange-rate is still very favourable, but declining steadily as Vietnamese economy booms and people get wealthier. If you've never been, go before all the native stuff is gone and all you'll see is Starbucks, KFC and Target anywhere you go!

This is Tràng An, just south of Ha Noi.

I suppose old AK 47s are cheap and plentiful! On the road I never felt the need but it was a large group. I walked around a few of the various towns by myself with only the standard multi tool and never thought I’d need it for selfdefense. I checked out more local coffee & roaster shops than I did starbucks in Saigon. Hopefully my passport renewal will be completed by 2021 .

feel safe

I have been to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on two motorcycle riding trips. Great times, beautiful people, unspoiled scenery and inexpensive. I feel safer there than I do in the East Bay or in San Francisco.

nice people

You meet the nicest people in Vietnam. These three are fellow tourists from China. They felt safe enough to travel in Vietnam. Now which one of you don't feel safe?
P.S. these girls were traveling on their own. We just struck up a conversation with them at a local tourist spot.
