UPDATE:His funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, February 27, at St. Francis Church in Sonoma, located at 469 3rd St. West. This is at the corner of west Napa Street.

The AFM lost one of our family over the weekend.

Tom 'Moose' Rienecker was taken from us as he was involved in an accident initiated by an SUV while he was out riding on Saturday evening.

Tom raced with the AFM in the 1970's on TZ's and in particular an early year TZ750. Tom and friends would regularly come to the Sears Point races every year to watch all of us and on occasion would show up at Thill.

I've known Tom for almost 40 years. We were never more than friendly acquaintances since we'd only occasionally see each other at Sears Point or at Chris Quinn's Wheelworks (or the Quinns' 4th of July/NYE parties). But I looked forward to running into him as he was always good for a fun chat about bikes or making things. His death is sad news.

Good of you to post this here.

Raced a TZ 750. That must have been awesome.

Tom Reinecker - RIP - Racer & Friend

Such sad news – to lose a friend like Tom.

I’ll miss our customary handshake – his ‘Vise Grip like’ handshake that he’d ‘pour on’, always ending with “OKAY Tom, you win!”

We met in 1976 – he was always a pleasure to run into and an active man – he always had some technical project on his mind he wanted to share. I thought he was somehow defying all laws of physics - a very large man to be racing a TZ250, to later be replaced with a TZ750.

Tom showed up at ‘The Unofficial AFM’s 60th Anniversary Celebration’ at Sears Point (2014), and Carl Foster, Tom and I spent some quality time like we had in the past, enjoying each others’ company and of course, the racing. It had been a number of years since I’d seen Tom, but it seemed like the last time we’d all seen each other was at the last AFM event.

RIP Tom……..we will all miss you.

Tom was always great to be around. He was racing a TZ250 when I started racing them. Always smiling and willing to lend a hand even to a total novice. Over the years it was always a pleasure to talk to Tom.

RIP Tom

Mike has pretty much summed it up for me -
after knowing each other for over 40 years, Tom remembered a ton
of stories that I'd forgotten about fellow racers, tuners, & GFs

Tom was ever-active on 2 wheels & a fixture among us greyhair ex-AFMers -
I will miss him

R.I.P. Tom :rose
