Tusk Panniers installation

The Koi Father

Snap Roll
I just installed a set of Tusk brand panniers on my KLR650. Installation was overall very easy. Total price 400 dollars from Rocky Mountain ATV.

Installation basically consists of removing seat, side covers, and turn signals. Then install frame, splice longer wires onto turn signals, mount turn signals on provided relocation mounts, assemble boxes, and install.

A second set of hands is nice when you get to the point of mounting the boxes. The videos on the Rocky Mountain ATV site are very helpful. The only bad time I had was with the provided wire splice connectors. They were crap IMHO. I used better quality splices I had on hand in my garage.

Fit: Great, the racks or frames and the boxes all fit like a glove. The assembly feels very sturdy.
Finish: Good, the aluminum boxes are black powder coated. Not the best job of powder coating I have seen, but acceptable. As I plan on applying black reflective tape on the boxes (with stickers on top of it) it is a non issue to me.
Value: I had always wanted panniers on my KLR but the cost kept me from doing so. I feel these are a great deal. And, oh the stuff I can carry now!:)

Be Here Now
As I was the second set of hands, thought I'd throw in some pics I took when I wasn't helping.

Scariest part of course is the self drilling of the mounting holes.
