Just checked out selong's great compilation of trackdays and was wondering what are the differences between the different track organizations and tracks. Are certain tracks and/or track events frequented more by experienced racers or folks, like myself:blush , who are new to the track scene? Are some tracks and/or track events better suited for newbies while others cater more to experienced trackgoers? I am currently signed up for a Novice School trackday with Z2 but saw there are a lot of options in the norcal area. All opinions/comments are welcome.:confused

Sorry if I left any organization out of the poll. They only allow 18 options. :(

Try checking out their websites. There are so many organizers/schools and so many of them are different.
For example, some run open track days, some are strictly schools and not track days, some run track days with instruction.
However, most I've seen run 2-3 groups at the track ranging from novice ---> expert.

If you're a newbie on the track, I think you're fine with the Novice school.

CCS is a semi race school, CLASS is very much a street rider oriented school and STAR is a race school. Like comparing apples to oranges.

afm199, thanks for the explanation. I am curious though as to how these schools would compare to, for example, the novice school with z2 or the other organizers. If they're not comparable, then what differences are there?

Obviously I am clueless in this area:confused . Any insight:nerd is much appreciated! :teeth

STAR isn't a race school (unless you take the Pro school).

ZZ & K@TT :thumbup

Those two seem to be topping the poll so far. What is it about these organizations that make them so popular? Or is there a bias due to the BARF-affiliation (no offense intended, just curious)?:confused

CCS is a semi race school,
you probably mean CSS, CCS is a race org. :shhh

Z² and K@tT offer the most in terms of accoutrements (food/drink provided), instructors per student and classroom sessions for the least amount of money. basically you get the best bang for your buck w/ either of em. they have novice and intermediate schools and most trackday orgs will only have regular trackdays w/ the possiblity of informal on-track assistance (you ask em, and they may have someone follow and tow you around for a session).

Because they both are great organizations. They offer well run trackdays and schools. Both owners of these organizations also participate on barf.

though lance lesso than chris ;) lance posts are usually informative, chris' in the sink....that's arguable :laughing (j/k ;))

pacific tracktime also good so i hear. can't be bad if joy like's it (hi! :D) and w/ fast guys earnest, butler, montalvo, anderson and company, how can you go wrong? all race competitively in their respective classes and are sure to give good tips though probably more informal than an actual school (they don't have schools i'm aware of but that's probably changed to include at least race/advanced schools and probably novice days 1 or 2 times a yr.)

if you're up to it, GoGo also teaches w/ sport track time(?). though probably not for beginners but you most likely more info than if you'd gone out and tooled around.. there's some controversy surrounding STT but i'm sure they're a good organization too if GoGo's there. can only help their reputation when you have 1 of the nicest and fastest guys you'd find in the paddock as an instructor.

YMMV

K@TT has great No-BS trackday atmosphere and a lot of events (50+ a year, who else has that many?). They also got excellend schools and discounts for track day addicts which helps with the costs somewhat.

Zoom Zoom and PTT are also cool, zoom zoom being the most novice friendly of the three and PTT groups are faster than average (not to mention front row seats to special high class wheelie antics :laughing)

I've only done two clubs so far, PTT and
The Track Club (Club Desmo). Both were great, PTT had better raffle stuff but no lunch, TTC takes great pride in their lunch (and it is GOOD eats), TTC I think is cheaper and their Big Dog passes are the bomb, PTT does more stuff at THill which is a better track than BW in my opinion. I like 'em both...

We'll put it this way: When I wanted to bring my wife to the track for her first track day, I picked Zoom Zoom. This was long before I started working for Zoom Zoom.

At the time, I had gone to CLASS, Z2, PTT, DP, Edge and Keigwins. I felt that Z2 was the best way to start her out at the track. I knew she would be in good hands and I could go turn some fast, drama free laps in the A group.
