The bay is now increasing these fast trak only lanes leaving us who ride the two wheels in more danger.
I see some riders in those lanes... are all of you paying this money grab just to ride in them? Or could it be that you sliding back, and forth before the cameras catch you?
Ive seen some of that too.
Whammy thinks its not cool for us to not be allowed to ride in such lanes.
If not allowed to ride in them, we are forced to split in other lanes which are not so safe.

Should be petition to be allowed to ride in those lanes or what?

What say teh barfs?

if you don't see it as a money grab then you may want to do some research.

Honestly, just ride without plates. Problem solved.

+1

If you get stopped for no plates and start receiving crap for it, just make a surprised face and say you had it on the bike when you left the house. Must have vibrated off. :teeth :ride

It's free for motorcycles.

For flex lanes you gotta carry a transponder set to the last position.

How is Fastrak a money grab? Your post comes off as some tin-foiler shit to me.

Fast track on a bridge is one thing, but to charge to use a lane that is designed to get you there faster than those who don't pay is a money grab.
Especially so when that fast trak lane is just as backed up or stopped as the other 3.

Tin foiler? Your a meathead.

Ur right I left my pez on the counter this morning.:p
Thanks for pointing that out. I was unaware.:thumbup mystery solved

But allow me to hold forth on these things. 99% of the time they are a waste of time for motos because they are 1 lane with no opportunity to legitimately split, and you're always stuck behind some hyper-miling jackass in a Leaf going 55.

Been around the block
I am kinda lost what Whammy is on about.

If you're driving in the express lanes, it's free. Some require you to have a new version of the transponder and set it to the max occupants/free setting. Other express lanes don't (the original 680, for example), just ride in it.

I just noticed that this info was linked above already.

If you're talking about the bridge crossings, bikes are still counted like carpools during carpool hours on state bridges. We're no longer free, we're now half price like any other carpool (or simply $2.50 on the Bay Bridge)

The Golden Gate is different because its not a state bridge, but I don't know what the actual rules there are.

(Edit, actually this chart says its $4.75)

*you're

I'm not a grammar nazi, I swear. I just enjoy the irony of someone insulting another's intelligence, while failing to spell their insult correctly.

Thanks! Was in a hurry to reply to the meathead.
Probably should of let that slide.
I'm all straight now.
Took my pez, and the fast track flex is on it's way.

What does kill me is there are days where people pay the highway robbery for the lane preference and that very lane is stop and go too.
Why would anyone pay for that?

You can legally/legitimately split a single lane.

Safe/smart? Not always.

You don't need a fastrak account at all for the express lanes currently in operation on 237, or on 680. A bike is free. It's still free in the express lane on 580, but they say you need a flex transponder, and if you get one of course it means a fastrak account. But you need one for the golden gate bridge anyway, and crossing the other bridges is easier with one. The only time I ever carry a transponder on the bike is for 580.

I think the new ones about to open on 680 will require flex transponder too, not sure. Probably the same for the new ones on 880.

From what I've read here, I think you can get away with not carrying the transponder on 580 either. But I'm not planning to test that anytime soon.

Ride Again!

Are you sure about that? Thought you had to have two lanes going the same direction. If I'm wrong, please explain! I know I'm opening that "can of worms" again, but maybe you could site a vehicle code, etc. I am sincerely intersted because I have done this despite my belief it's not really legal.

gone for now
What happens if I have my flex pass, and I have it set right and with me, but it doesn't register? Do I end up with a ticket of some sort (based on my plate)?
