There are nice people out there

I went to one of our favorite restaurants tonight to order and take out food. Held the door for a family, they thanked me and offered for me to go first. I let them get seated and they thanked me again.

I ordered and waited outside. Two people struck up short, courteous conversations as I waited. Just simple acknowledgements, interchanges.

A worker at the restaurant came outside to let me know that my order was ready. With a smile and a bow.

I need to keep in mind that most people are genuine and nice, and to just let the bad moments and interactions fade away.

Also, last night Mrs. got into a significant wreck in our pickup. A neighbor, a 7-11 friend, and our mechanic all asked variations of "is everyone okay?" before asking about what happened.

(Mrs. and the others are fine. The pickup runs but his nose has been redone yet again.)

My last first aid course we were taught if you come across an accident to ask "where does it hurt?". Apparently if you ask "are you okay?" people may blow off what they think are minor injuries but may actually be serious injuries.

A little courtesy can go a long way! :thumbup

If we show a little courtesy to each other and help each other with little things everybody wins.

Maybe we need a national courtesy day to remind people of the benefits of courtesy. I try to do the little things all the time, like waving when somebody stops to leave room for me when the traffic is stopped, when people move over while I'm splitting, etc.

Courtesy is good :thumbup

It comes to me naturally. Although, if i'm in the car behind a slow or inconsistent driver... :laughing

Once i was out of the city i realized that it (the city itself) might be the cause of much of the impoliteness. People are just too close together for too long. It starts to make you grumpy or impatient.

Now that i live out of the city i find that, when i return, im the weirdo smiling and saying hello to strangers. People look at me like " WTF is with that guy..." "He's probably a rapist..." Its normal out here in my small town you grouch!

:laughing

Outstanding Idea!

On FB you always see the "National Donut Day" or something similar, but you get no warning..

Maybe start FB Post saying Jan ? is National Courtesy Day. Spread the word so people are reminded.

OTOH Everyday should be National Courtesy Day!

Good Post OP!

Starbucks this morning. I was third in line behind a woman and two guys with face and neck tats. The woman asks the barista how much a breakfast sandwich costs with tax the proceeds to dump a bunch of change out on the counter. She comes up short.

One of the guys and I asked how much she needed pretty much in unison. Dude smiled, told me that he was ahead in line so it was his. He paid for her sandwich and a hot chocolate as well. He offered her a handshake, got a hug instead.

We all chatted as we waited for our orders. Weather, city politicians, stuff like that. She offered hugs to me and his friend before she left (which we took).

Total strangers, smiling and talking. The "scary looking" tatted guys shook my hand before they left with their order.

A nice way to start my day.

I’m glad Mrs and the others involved were ok. Luckily vehicles can be fixed as annoying as it is. :thumbup

Thank you. =)

Judicious application of wrenches, a crowbar, and a mallet will set my truck up right. Stuff is stuff, life is precious. Our insurance will cover the other driver's vehicle.

Mrs. and the other driver aren't even sore today for which I am VERY grateful.
