The Passage (Books & TV)

SPOILERS

Once again one of my favorite book series is getting the TV treatment.

Anybody catch the premier last night? What did you think?

I have zero faith in FOX but I thought the premier was fairly faithful to the book so far so I'm still hopeful they'll do it right. I have no idea how they're going to transition to the After-Virus/First Colony era though.

Still wish this series ended up on FX or HBO.

I like Vampire post-apocalyptic fiction

I read The Strain. Though I was disappointed with the origin for the vampires ended up being supernatural and not scientific despite fighting them with science.

Have not read the series, but did watch the first tv episode the other night. Did not particularly grab my attention, seemed trope heavy to me. I would watch one or two more to see how the story develops, but it did not look promising based off of the first episode.

I liked the Strain tv show, partly because it was very campy. Now that HHM mentioned it, I guess it could be considered an allegory showing humanity's fight to eradicate it's own superstition.

I have not read the books, but I did enjoy the 1st episode. I was really surprised to see that the man who assisted the little girl, is shown to be a recurring character in the upcoming episodes. I thought that they would have killed him after all of (their) people that he's killed.

I'm looking forward to it.

Efram, Setrakian, and his team fought them with both science and religious overtones in the novels. Only by detonating nukes (science) over the methuselahs' birthing sites (religion) could kill the Ancients. I thought it was quite entertaining how the author linked vampires to the remainants of a cannibalistic angel and Islamic mythology.

I liked The Strain trilogy way more than The Passage. Way too many predicable tropes in the Passage. The author only wrote it to appease his daughter's wish

I didn't mind this so much but in the end angels came down and reclaimed the spirit of the angel that turned into 7 vampires.

Angels would imply a god who literally did nothing about Vampires for thousands of years. And let them enslave humanity.

Also, they never explain why some vampires are mindless zombies forever and some like the Nazi vampire have independent thought.

Well there's the ultimate apologist cop-out to that ecumenical question- god works in mysterious ways.

The mindless zombies are dependent on the amount of blood worms pumped into the infected victim.

I am hooked on the TV show, haven't read the books. I will have to try them. I am confused on why they don't want to name them vampires if they are one? Thought that was silly.

I remember telling you to read the book quite a few years ago because there's a lot of religion in it.

I'm actually behind on the show. Got em all in the DVR but I'm only up to Episode 2. Gonna try to catch up this weekend.

I will definitely check out the books. :) Thank you for the reminder!

Same. Hard to believe it’s the “Preppie” Zack from Saved By the Bell.
We are showing our age :laughing
