ok. I love the whole custom fighter scene.
too many factory bikes are ruining the ingenuity that each individual puts into their own bikes.
MV Agusta has the Brutale
Kawasaki has the Z1000
Duc streetfighter
Honda's CB1000 (not for sale in the U.S.)
Yamaha Fz1000 fazer (varient of FZ1, not available in the U.S.)
Aprillia Tuono
Benelli TnT etc etc etc
is this the next phase in "factory motorcycles coping the underground scene?
seems that way. its just marketing for them..
its a passion for people like me
im feeling ready to just switch over to a supermoto

Just because a bike is naked does not mean it is a "streetfighter. Naked bikes with wide bars existed way, way before the whole modern day streetfighter moniker came along.

On the topic of the Ducati... Ducati ripped the fairings off of the 1098 and made a naked bike, just like Aprilia pulled the fairings off of the RSV and turned it into the Tuono. Does this make them 'factory streetfighters' who are "ruining" your customization? No. They're just naked sportbikes. The hard definition of 'streetfighter' doesn't really exist, anyway.

I thought the hard definition of a streetfighter was that you turned [a literbike] into a streetfighter, not the manufacturer and from a sales floor?

I've always called the likes of a Z1000, Brutale, Tuono, etc. "naked bikes," just like the FZ1's and Speed Triples.

Well that's a bit of an exaggeration.. They did change the geometry (specifically he rake) and there are all new tanks and other plastics..With the Duc the radiator and surrounding plumbing is also new. But yeah, a naked sportbike was the goal..

I love how so many people get butt hurt about bikes like the SF and criticize it for going for a look when the custom built street fighters are doing the exact same thing. Who cares whether a corporation in Italy did it or some guy in his garage. It's the sex.

These bikes are relatively comfortable, have great motors and look great. There's gotta be something better in the moto world to whine about.

Has it occurred to you that enthusiasts are working at those companies designing the bikes that they like to ride? I've met many of the designers and although the OEMs like to make a profit, there's a lot of passion in this industry. Believe it or not, the designers, product planners, engineers and development riders are people like you.

What are you saying? That OEMs should just keep building sportbikes and cruisers and nothing else because anything with imagination or originality in the design is just "copying" what a pure-hearted customizer is doing in his garage?

Yep :thumbup, Or Super standard or Naked, to separate them from just garden variety naked's.

But Street fighter has to have fight in it. The Hard edged performance and lighter chassis, and suspension of the Race replica and in the liter form.

At this this time at least (and coming up to this time) it is Owner done, in some form. The factory's (even the Ducati street fighter) isn't a street fighter, but something that a less obsessed biker (with no crafting skills of their own) would buy, turn key.

We bitch because they don't offer us the bikes we want. We spend hourts and dollars turning the bikes they sell us into the bikes we want. And then we bitch when they try to come up with a bike we want?
WTF?

Pssst, I'll let you in on a little secret if you promise not to tell anyone. Manufacturers make supermotos also and you're way late to that scene also.

To the motorcycle manufacturers:

Make more "streetfighters"

Suzuki:

Make a "naked" bike out of the gsxr750

Honda:

Update the 919 using the 954 or 1000rr engine, with better suspension

Kawasaki:

The new z1000 would be better with the zx10 engine

Yamaha:

Plenty of potential with the 08 r1, come on, you know you wanna.

Ducati:

Good job, you have actually made a few bikes that are cool, the range of motor options in your standard range rocks.

Ktm:

Sometimes I feel like you get it. Now, about those maintainence procedures...

Triumph:

Damn son, you guys are doing killing it! Not a lot of bikes, but somehow you fill a lot of ground. How do you feel about a 675 Tiger?

BMW:

Sometimes I wonder what you're smoking, but lately you're doing cool things(s1000rr,hp2 I'm talking to you)

to the general American biking culture: get your head out of your ass. Its not all Harleys and faired supersports.

OMG, bike companies actually paying attention to trends in the public and responding by delivering bikes that are closer to what people want?!? The horror...

If displaying your individuality is that important to you, you can probably still find ways to express it through your transportation. I don't see factories releasing sportbike bobbers anytime soon, for example.

And yes, I ride a naked R6. I don't care if it's a "streetfighter" or not. I like it. A lot.
