The Internet and Lyrics (and how far can it go?)

Years ago there used to be a few sites that offered lyrics. They may have been a pain to use (pop ups, search glitches, et cetera), but at least the lyrics were accurate.

Now there are slews of easy to use sites...almost all with inaccurate lyrics. The errors are the same; they must be copy/pasting.

I find it to be both annoying and alarming. My granddaughter has been taught and home and in school to not take a single website as proof, but if she checks three or four and they all offer " 'Scuse me while I kiss this guy" is that going to be the new truth?

And what other "truths" will be accepted as facts?

I like genius lyrics, because of its social aspect. People will correct and verify lyrics (like Wikipedia) but also annotate lyrics with interpretations, explanations, etc.

Just another pet peeve when artists don't have lyrics on their websites (or cd/cassette/album inserts..Yeah I like physical media, so what?).

It's it some sort of copyright issue between artists and record labels to prevent dissemination of lyrics??

Holy crap, that is a genius idea. I am going to make a Song Lyrics site with subtly, but intentionally incorrect lyrics that I think are funny.

On this subject....yesterday I looked up the words to Rihanna's song 'Love on the Brain' and found that she was saying something that I didn't hear in the words....

gone for now
one major issue with lyrics sites is copyright: song lyrics are copyright protected, so you're unlikely to find major companies putting together sites like that.
