Tailor/Suit recommendation

Pretty much what the title says.
I'm looking for a custom tailored suit and additional sport coat and want to spend max $1000. I am open to buying the suit one place and having it fit at a different one. There are just so many new places like combat gentleman, indochino, that offer super cheap suits but reviews I have read are that they are spot on or terribly Chinese wrong. I'd rather go to an established tailor and have a custom fit suit. Although places like Nordstrom offer custom made ones for around $780, which would be great except the people working in the mens department aren't tailors and when I went last the guy had no idea what he was doing... doesn't instill confidence for an $800 lasting purchase.

So my question is, do you have any tailors or places you purchase suits that you would recommend in my price range? Thanks

Nordstrom is fine. But talk to the tailor, not the people working in the department.

j hilburn. Good stuff, I have a few shirts and pants from them. Someone will come to your office/home to measure. A bajillion options. My wife's friend is a stylist here in SJ, but I'm sure there's one close to you.

and the reason why is I have a bunch of suits, some nice, some not so nice, but the truth is I want new ones every so often. I'd rather spend $500 at indochino, and not feel bad about buying new ones and have more variety. In my experience they are really good quality for the price.

Another friend recommended seymoursfasions but some of the reviews on yelp were disheartening. Thanks for the vote of confidence though

He's really not the best at communication but they do good work and he's come to my house several times to do fittings which is more than generous

Been dealing with Chan for 8 years. Even went to his shop in Bangkok

Indochino is pretty nice too.

I agree with revnort...I've owned many suits over the years, and if money was no object or I needed something to wear everyday and lasta long time, sure I'd drop $2000+on a suit with proper canvassing and all that crap. But my $500 suits last long enough, are always in style, and nobody of our generation gives a crap.

some of those reviews are pretty scary...

I was thinking about buying the suit from indo then having it tailored at seymour.

Do you just need one suit by a certain date? Are you looking to start a collection?

What is the purpose?

You can get a decent suit by going to macys, and even having them tailor it. Wait for a sale and you get it even cheaper.

My point was I used to go out and splurge on a suit, and you have it for years, but generally you cannot wear it to every occasion. You need multiple suits. Also suits do go out of style. I can let you borrow a really nice suit I bought 10 years ago which looks totally dated now. If you need to wear one all the time, you need multiple, if you aren't going to wear it all the time why spend the money? For me it is just more economical to buy something cheaper and have versatility. As already noted, nobody really cares, and most can't tell anyway. You will get just as many compliments in $500 suit as a $1500 suit assuming its cut right.

At indochino you can just go online and order something once they have your sizes. I have have never had the problems in those reviews. Also I am usually skeptical about yelp.

My office.
Buying a suit off the rack, even having it tailored to fit, is still nothing like wearing a suit made specifically for you. It's money well spent.

Good thing off the rack suits fit me almost perfect before tailoring. Usually just pants hem and maybe sleeves and I'm good.

Mainly I need a suit for weddings but would also like to get a blazer as the team I play for (Olympic Club) in SF has a jacket and tie policy for their clubhouse.
I do coach soccer and will wear said suit for all playoff and championship matches for our division games.

I'm also looking to start a "finer" garment collection if you will, while I don't have an excuse to wear them daily, I do like having options and dressing nicely.

I think I will check out indochino and have them do my measurments and if further tailoring is needed I will bring it to Seymours.

At the very least you will get a better idea of what you want to spend your money on. Sounds like a solid plan.

I actually had to buy a vest and pants for a friends wedding at express, and added a jacket and some ties. Now I have a new three piece which isn't half bad for the on sale 300 I paid for it.

Hook up with a seamstress, I buy off the rack stuff and my wife is a master at tailoring it to fit me perfectly. Feel like James Bond every time I put on one of my "altered" suits.

Think I may start wearing them all the time, so I can be just like Adam. How hard is it to get hydraulic fluid out of wool?

I've never been a fashion assclown but suits are one of my 'things.' I could go probably about 2 weeks straight wearing nothing but suits and never wear the same one twice.

Dress code at my office is pretty lax. Jeans and a polo is okay. Shorts for some... I still show up with a suit on a lot.

My excuse is that I hate ironing and I'm too lazy to hang up my 'normal' clothes. Putting a suit on takes less time in the morning to get ready than ironing jeans and a polo.
