ok now finally all the signs add up..... no matter how safe and cautious one rides "SHIT" happens

last sunday myself along with 5 fellow riders were enjoying a beautiful day of riding up hwy9 to boulder creek then back up big basin way to skyline blvd our pace was moderate not exceeding 5-10mph over speedlimit. We took 35 northbound up toward woodside but didn't make it to Alice's as we planned.
I smashed head on to a vehicle trying to making an abrupt u-turn from the shoulder lane failing to see us approaching. If it weren't for my cat like reflexes telling me to jump as high as I can, I would have sustained major injuries. I flew stright over the car fracturing my leg and landing in the dirt uncounsious. unfortuanatly for my buddy following not so far behind me hit square on to the side of the vehicle with his whole body taking the brunt of the impact.

we were both airlifted to stanford medical and treated overnight. I was released mid week to continue my recovery at home with leg brace and neck support. Now I'm am faced with trying to locate my personal effects which did not follow me, try to retrive my bike in the tow yard to salvage what I can as I only had minmal insurance, and try to track down driver of the vehicle we hit in hopes to seek justice for all this mess. any advice and :2cents gladly welcome. Your right about s%&t happening.Little over a year ago I was riding alone over a twisty canyon at a very slow pace, smelling the roses! Went into a uphill left turn at 1/4 of my normal speed & something caught my eye on the left. Looked & nada. Then looked down just as a riderless bike on it's side hit me low & broadsided me. Knocked my bike out from under me & sent me straight up & down HEAD FIRST! Compressed 2 vertebrae & cracked one also + a bad concussion! 5 days in the hospital & then in again for back surgery. Now just over a year later I have cronic upper back pain & and am 2 inches shorter then before the crash. Been sent to Physical Therapy, a pain managment clinic & accupuncture to no avail. All because the guy coming from the other direction took the corner at a speed past his ability !!

I assume the cops showed and there was.a.report that would identify the driver. I would also assume they have your personal items unless they happened to be sent.to Stanford.

Sorry to hear you and your bud got hit.. that sucks man. Have you contacted the police..? San Mateo CHP or.sheriff...maybe Palo Alto?

DO NOT REPEAT NOT SIGN ANYTHING INSURANCE RELATED!!!

If you want FULL reimbursement you need to contact lawyer immediately to represent you against the errant cage driver & his insurance co.

The two below are BARF members & sponsors.

http://twowheellaw.com/
http://www.ccwlawyers.com/

Twowheellaw is "southbay."
CCWlawyers is "San Francisco."

I've had experience w/the latter, & got a settlement after 3 years against my own insurance co., which was refusing to pay everything (wife was rear-ended in a car accident.) They got them to pay...

Don't let the insurance co. fool you, they will send you checks, releases, etc. to try to get you to settle cheap. DO NOT SIGN w/o representation & professional advice.

Ins. Co. like to get off as cheap as possible...they WILL try.

GOod luck,

Thanks to all family and friends for the moral support. 'DAVE' great advise on the insurance bit. Everyone I've talked to is saying the same thing so I did go with a personal injury lawyer. With all of you who ride out to Woodside to enjoy good eats at Alice's would know the booth set up under the canopy for Russ brown and associates. We are trusting they will pull all the necessary strings to meet our needs.

glad you got hooked up...

sad it's come to that, but after getting screwed several times by trying to be nice about it, you must protect yourself or get hosed. Happened to me far to many times.

Get well soon!
