Sunday 9/27/15, Metcalf Group ride, Dinner & Lunar Eclipse

Meet around 4pm at Snell Bucks.
6009 Snell Ave. San Jose. (corner of Santa Teresa)

Ride leaves at 4:30. :ride
Route- Santa Teresa, Bailey, Metcalf, San Felipe, Blossom Hill.

Dinner at Aqui around 5:30.
5679 Snell Ave, San Jose.

Then around 6:30 we'll cruise over to Communications Hill to watch the "Super blood moon" Lunar eclipse.

The top of the hill allows a view of sunset 6:45-ish, as well as the moonrise in the east (towards Mt. Ham) at 7:11 pm.  
The Eclipse peaks 7:47-ish, and is over 8:23-ish.

Meet me at 3:20 at the Starbux at 442 N. Santa Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, if you're interested in riding to the ride.


Oh, and some lunar tidbits:

The full Moon of September 27/28 is a Supermoon – the Moon will be closest to the Earth, or at its perigee, as it turns into a full Moon. A rising Super Full Moon can look larger and brighter to spectators on Earth.

Total eclipses of Super Full Moons are rare. According to NASA, they have only occurred 5 times in the 1900s – in 1910, 1928, 1946, 1964 and 1982. After the September 27/ 28, 2015 Total Lunar Eclipse, a Supermoon eclipse will not happen again for another 18 years - October 8, 2033.

Riding to the dinner and eclipse viewing is optional - caging is fine, so invite friends if you like.

And if you've never heard of Communications Hill, it's those hilltop homes near Hwy 87 and Hillsdale Blvd in San Jose.

The scoped-out location is pinned in the pic below - go up Azores St, make a right on Batista Dr and park on the right (it's free there till 9 pm), then cross the street and walk up the grassy hill towards the water tower.

In case that doesn't work for some reason, Plan B is Adeline Ave near St. Florian Wy, just a few blocks away.
