Suggestions for Vegan/Vegetarian cookout options

Hey BARFS, I'm having a get-together with some work buddies for Scotchapalooza (tm) 2018 and need some GOOD suggestions for the non-carnivores in the group.

I've got a dedicated meat-free space on my grill, and am going to grill up the usual vegetables, but would like something else.

What's the BEST, tastiest (in your personal opinion) veggie burger patty?

Can't do the usual *portobella mushroom* stuff, 'cuz Tom is DEATH on mushrooms. :laughing

Give me some good options that a "traditional american-style" bbq guy wouldn't think of. You can only eat so much corn-on-the-cob and grilled asparagus before you loose your cool. :)

Thanks

"Beyond Meat" burgers are really good

You can buy them at Safeway or WF. You do not cook them like a trad veggie burger but like a meat burger. Med-Med Rare. It should still be pink in the middle.

They also sell brats and Italian sausage variants

Had a big BBQ bash and the veggies wouldn't have anything off a grill that had recently had meat on in. Period.

To keep the peace, I dug out another grill I had, cooked off whatever grease might have been on the grill and cooked the everloving fuck out of their veggie shit. I told them to do their own shit next time... if there ever is a next time for them.

Just a heads up, even with a veggie zone on the grill, they may give you shit about it.

Srsly, some people you cannot please. I'd grill up some veggie kabobs and if they like it, good for them. If they don't like it, they can bring their own shit.

During my brief stint an a vegan I never then or since eaten a veggie burger or tofu or any other fake meat. Didn't need a grill, plants only was how I'd roll.

I'm generally of the opinion that if you are actively avoiding meat, you shouldn't be eating pretend meat. Politely yet firmly let them know that they are not welcome at your cookout :twofinger

But I'm not a total asshole :laughing. My step daughter likes the Morningstar farms veggie patties and they have good reviews in the internets.

I also like to cut zucchini or similar squash into spears, toss them with some olive oil, salt, pepper, thyme, and throw that on the grill.

.

:rofl:rofl

Yeah, they're NOT militant or anything, I'm just being a nice guy because they're bringing me FREE SCOTCH.

Plus, they're really good friends and I DON'T need to be a total dick every time we have get togethers. :laughing

Lots of good suggestions, keep them coming if you want...or not :twofinger

Pretend meat has always been mildly, to very disappointing to me. Marinated veggie kabobs are always tasty and easy to grill, please don't forget the pineapple chunks. Slabs of extra firm tofu in a tamari (or other sauce of choice) are an easy and occasionally tasty grilling option.

I have been wanting to try a beyond meat burger. The meat imitation aspect was a turn off to me, but I would like to try it sometime.

They have a vegan cheese called Daiya. It's not cheese, but it mimics the texture fairly well. I added a ton of oil and seasoning for flavor. A good toasted bun/bread with daiya, and some kind of burger patty (buy it or youtube a recipe) with a lot of salt + fat (probably oil) would probably be pretty good. Regular fixins like guac, sauce (replica mayo)

Then the something with potatoes as a side would be good. french fries, french fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots or whatever. tossed or sauced. That's what i would do at least. If they weren't good friends, probably just a couple bags of chips. sea salt potato chips and regular plain tortilla chips with no dip.

Diced potatoes with onions and/or other seasonings are a nice thing to grill in an aluminum foil pouch.

Grilled potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and zucchini topped with garlic yogurt sauce. Otherwise one of the many excellent fake sausages available. I like trader Joe's Italian sausage. I eat meat but will cook the veggie sausages the majority of the time.
