Stinky, Rich Exhaust! DRZ400SM

Hey All,

I was scoping for a stinky thread here, but this is BARF, and there are too many threads to sift through that contain info about ass and bowel movements, so here I go!

I have a DRZ400SM that seems to be jetted properly (i.e. No noticeable flat spots, idle problems, low power), but everyone that rides behind me claims to be getting nauseous from the rich, thick aroma of gas or sulfur dioxide...whatever. It's stinky! :fart

Ummm....not exactly sure what the mileage is right now. I have a Clarke tank and switch to reserve at about 130 miles.

Hmmm stock carb and bore? Do you get any backfiring if you let off the throttle at high RPM? Mileage is a bit low pending what engine work has been done.

Obviously that FCR is your problem. I will take it off your hands for nothing so you can get a more efficient carb.

Guessing it's running on the rich side.

Any chance you can get the bike a baseline dyno run with the exhaust sniffer to get yourself the air/fuel hp/torque graphs? These graph results will be very useful for knowing what is or isn't going on.

I've worked on this bike several times & I'll tell you that the plug is a nice light Brown color & there isn't a whole bunch of soot in the end of the pipe.

Remember the turn signal you commented on? Melted it the fuck off on a test ride yesterday :laughing

Apparently that's normal for SMRs. Still think I'm running a little rich.

I got the MC rebuilt kit and the upgraded water pump impeller for you to work on when you get back :teeth

(Also a ca-cycleworks pump should mine decide not to cooperate after our surgery the other day)
