Splitting way too fast

On days I cage to work which is usually a work out day, I see too many guys splitting lanes in the dark at 70 plus mph.
Its dark people... not everyone is at peak performance and half asleep.
I know you are doing 70+ because I'm doing 65 and you blow right past me.
This isn't a M4M/W, These events happen on a wide variety of riders.
Are you monkeys just that careless that you'll split to get to work at such a dangerous speed.

They also won't be receptive to us trying to explain how that's bad for us as a community and sets us in a negative light.

I guess the only thing we can do is wait for the chp and coroners office to scoop them up off the roads.

There's other life changing events that can occur that don't involve a meat wagon. Might meet an awesome significant other, have a kid, watch a friend go down, get into track days, find Jesus...

But you're probably right, it probably will be a spill or the death of a buddy that makes them pay attention.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't try and reason with them when the opportunity arises. All those church missionaries out there must convert someone sometime or they couldn't keep at it.

When I got my 701 and was on my first ride to work with it, I was splitting on 80 with a friend who was pacing me, in case I did something dumb and crashed. Now, the thing about the 690/701 is that their mirrors are basically useless. You essentially have a paint can shaking up and down at 5k RPM in the middle of the frame... I noticed there was an extra blob or 2 behind my friend no more than a minute after they joined us.

I was doing a respectable 15 or even 20mph over I80's typical 15-20mph through the San Pablo area. When I came to a gap between cars in the carpool lane and I start to move to the left to let the riders behind us go by. Before I can get 3ft from the line splitting lanes 1 and 2, a guy on a superduke flys by me, flipping me off and aggressively shaking his head.

There's not many times I want to slap another rider but this guy needed it. My 20mph over the flow of traffic is already pushing it and this guy was doing 20-30 faster than me as he went by. He didn't slow down when he went back to splitting.

2 things about this situation.

1 - You shouldn't split more than 20 (or even 15) faster than traffic
2 - If you come up on a slower splitter, don't expect them to go extremely out of their way to get out of yours. I moved over as soon as was reasonably safe given the group's speed, traffic's speed, and the available gaps.

My town has an email group. So many emails are outrage about some car that thinks some road is a racetrack and doesn't anyone care about the children. I get the concern but think it is wasted effort.

Even if the offenders read our emails, they clearly don't give a shit. And our population is under 5,000, I think, so it's a much smaller group than, say, everyone commuting on 101. People drive or ride like shit because they think they can. They're either selfish assholes, ignorant youth, or haven't seen the consequences of the risks they're taking.

I drove like an asshole as a teenager. It stopped after a couple of close calls and a few years of wisdom. But I sure as hell don't think an e-mail (or a forum post) would have stopped me sooner.

let them wake up the cagers up ahead. then they will see me slow pass them and say ' now there's a responsible rider!"

not likely. they probably wish me dead.

Even riders are getting pissed.

Land sharing will be repealed. I can even imagine it becoming a Proposition on the 2018 ballot if this continues.

If I'm traveling at 65 and they go past me like I'm standing still.

Whammy, genuine concern for others' safety aside, it seems you're in the wrong lane. You know the drill, slow traffic keep right.
