Uneasy Rider
Sold pending funds.
I’m reworking the pricing for this bike after further research and consideration, and offering a few different options.
- $18,500: everything below, including both the stock cross-spoke tubeless wheels and the Woody’s 21” / 17” wheelset for the dirt.
- $16,750: everything but the dirt wheels.
- $16,000: everything but the dirt wheels and Bumot luggage / racks.
- $15,300: everything but the dirt wheels, Bumot luggage / racks and Clearwater lights.
- $14,000: stock bike, no luggage or farkles.
If you’re interested in the bike and have a particular price point / setup in mind, let’s talk. I also have the original, full set of BMW Vario luggage (killer for city use in collapsed mode) with matching keys that can be included with the bike instead of the Bumot stuff. Read on for the extensive upgrades.
This is an extremely well set up 2016 BMW R1200GS—ready to go ‘round the world, or at least look the part in your social media posts. The intent was to create an extremely good every day tall-rounder that would be very competent off-road with a quick wheel swap. It’s in very good condition and has just under 12,000 miles on it. It’s been in the bushes once (off-road, of course) and has some minor scratches on the right valve cover. I have the pink slip / clean title in hand here in Oakland, California.
The reality is if you're going to put together a similarly kickass GS with the best stuff (Clearwaters, Alt Rider, and so on), it'll cost you well over $30k. This bike saves you a whole lot of cash and time, and the extended warranty means you're covered essentially like a new bike, so you can get on with your adventure—whatever it may be.
The bike:
- Triple Black R1200GS with black cross-spoke tubeless wheels (19” front / 17” rear).
- Extended warranty: adds 4 years and unlimited mileage beyond the standard 3 years / 36,000 mile factory warranty.
- BMW Navigator V GPS and locking mount.
- Dynamic ESA.
- Cruise control.
- Ride Modes Pro with Enduro Pro plug.
- ABS Pro / stability control (cornering ABS).
- LED headlight and BMW headlight protector.
- Gear Shift Assist Pro (quick shifter).
- Keyless ride (push-button start).
- BMW gel seat.
- Heated grips.
- TPMS.
- Factory security system.
The mods:
- Dirt wheels built by Woody’s Wheelworks in Colorado: Excel 21” x 1.85” front / 17” x 3.5” rear. This is a $2,500+ wheelset: Japanese Excel rims, Superlaced with stainless spokes to Woody’s Superlite hubs, EBC wave brake rotors and ABS sensor ring on the front. Rear is tubeless and currently has a Moto Z Tractionator on it; front has a Pirelli Scorpion DOT knobby with tube—Woody’s doesn’t do these front tubeless with these rims. These wheels are unbelievably sweet—the 21” front makes the bike rideable like a proper dirtbike.
- SW-Motech light mount bar. Beefier than the stock BMW one.
- Clearwater lights: hybrid kit with one Erica and one Sevina, Billy brake light (license plate frame version) and CANBUS controller. Serious light, with clear and yellow covers.
- Black Pazzo folding levers: normal length clutch and short brake.
- Alt Rider dual control rear brake pedal extension.
- Alt Rider skid plate and crash bar system—beefy, integrated protection.
- Inertia LED CANBUS-compliant turn signal bulb replacements at all four corners.
- Black Bumot aluminum sidecases (45L / 41L), with rack-mounted toolbox and internal bags and lid bags. These are arguably the burliest cases in existence.
- Alt Rider passenger seat rack and luggage rack plate, set up with Givi topcase mounting points.
- Alt Rider radiator guards.
- Alt Rider kickstand enlargement foot.
- Fastway Adventure pegs (black).
- Rizoma bar risers.
Other miscellaneous stuff:
- The bike has Michelin PR4s on the street wheels—rear is new; front has something like 4,000 miles on it, I think.
- Brand spankin’ new front shock, just replaced under warranty.
- Repair manual.
- BMW tank bag.
- Pillion seat.
- BMW pillion rack (new, never installed).
- Barkbuster hand guards (new, never installed).
- Box of stuff with all stock parts (pegs, levers, etc).
Top case and Mosko luggage in some of the photos are not included.
