So, what counts as a "green job"?

Every time I reuse something it's GREEN, and we've done this for centuries. :rolleyes

What is their definition anyway?

:wtf:rofl Can we hear the list of jobs that aren't "green"? I assume "Hitman" is a green job since you're recycling carbon?

Well, you should look into your City's version of this:

"The Santa Rosa City Council has adopted a sweeping plan that tries to strike a balance between meeting aggressive greenhouse gas emission goals and minimizing the burdens on local businesses.

The Climate Action Plan, a dense 231-page document, is meant to serve as a road map for how the city can meet its state-mandated goals and local emission reduction targets by 2020 and beyond."

When you dig through the document you will find that for purposes of these mandated programs Geothermal Energy and Hydro energy are NOT CONSIDERED GREEN and is lumped into the same category as energy derived from coal and thus CANNOT be used to achieve mandated "Green Energy" standards.

Up here we get ALL of our energy from The Geysers, the LARGEST Geothermal Energy complex on the globe but none of that counts as "Green" unlike Solar, Wind, Wave power etc.

Complete insanity.

Another tidbit in the document?

They want to start the process of outlawing gas powered devices like gas water heaters, gas dryers, gas stovetops, gas grills etc. etc. and convert everything to electric because, you know, it will be so much "greener" to use electricity after the mandates go through.

Never mind that Santa Rosa has been using "clean" gas powered buses for decades and has been lauded for that on a national basis! :laughing

Own the Mess You've Made!
this.

ever notice how actually effective "green" programs, like recycling, actually *make* money without government subsidy? Recycling cans and metal scrap was my entire "allowance" as a young'un. Recycling used cooking oil is profitable enough that recyclers have made it against the law to allow it to be given away for free. Companies have made lots of money rendering, recycling, reusing and repurposing stuff for decades.

Hell, I recycle over a ton at a time every used vehicle I buy :)

But get government involved, and suddenly it's millions of dollars for non scalable, maintenance-intensive, resource hogging or complete snake-oil "programs". Programs conveniently run by individuals who make large cash contributors to certain politicians.

remember, these are the same types of folks who decided that to save the planet we all needed to go to hydroelectric power, then turned around and decided to save the planet we needed to demolish all that hydro infrastructure less than two decades later.

I remember Waste Management taking over Recycling in S.F.
All of a sudden recycling was no longer bought, and WM was profiting $1 million a year.
